Grade 10 Registration Student Portal will be open March 1 st – March 8 th ØStudents need to register on a laptop or desktop – a CELL PHONE will not work! ØYou are only allowed to register for 8 courses ØIf you have trouble with the portal or have forgotten your password, click on “forgot password” ØYou will be given the course selection form that you can use to register for your courses which you will need to bring back to your TA signed by your parents/guardians after you completed your registration ØMore information can be found in the Student Handbook found on the KEC website
Manitoba High School Credit Requirements Students require 30 credits to graduate. Some are REQUIRED that are referred to as ‘compulsory credits’, while others are called ‘optional credits’
The Big Picture Courses where a mark over 50% is earned = 1 Credit
Tech Ed Diploma • The Grade 9 credit is optional. The eight courses developed from Grades 10 to 12 form the foundation courses within the specific cluster.
Technolog y Senior Years Diploma Programs at KEC Students can choose to Major in one of the Tech Ed programs, OR opt to • just Automotive take an Technology options course for: • Baking and Pastry Arts • Carpentry • Culinary Arts • Collision Repair and Refinishing Tech • Electrical Trades Technology • Graphic Design • Hairstyling – new Intro to Hairstyling HS 20 SI • Interactive Digital Media • Photography • Refrigeration and air Conditioning
Grade 10 – 8 credits What you need to take • Math – Choose either Essential Math OR Intro to Applied/Pre-cal Note: it is recommended a student have 70% or higher in Gr. 9 math if they wish to take Intro to Applied/Precal, as the course is challenging. • English • Physical Education • Geography Options • Any 3 courses • This will look different for each student depending on entrance requirements for postsecondary or vocational certificate requirements.
Grade 11 – 8 credits What you need to take Options • Math – Choose either Essential or Applied or Pre. Calculus • Any 4 courses. . . now all the Sciences are options too (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) • English – Comprehensive OR Literary OR Transactional • Physical Education • This will look different for each student depending on entrance
Grade 12 – 6 credits What you need to take Options • English • Any 3 courses – this will look different for each student depending on entrance requirements for post-secondary or vocational certificate requirements. • Math • Physical Education
Additional Information Did you know you can create a sample credit tracker with your actual KEC courses using my. Blueprint? Go into your Office 365 account If you are completing a vocational program to launch your my. Blueprint account AND want to take additional optional courses to ensure you meet eligibility requirements for other post-secondary programs, you may graduate with more than 30 credits. Talk to a counsellor further details. Optional credits can be flexed throughout your four years at KEC Talk to your counsellor if you have ANY questions about your schedule or you’re unsure about which courses are required for post-secondary programs

Cadets • You can earn up to 2 credits for the successful completion of specific training exercises • These credits DO NOT count towards the 30 required for graduation Volunteer • You can earn 1 credit for 110 hours of volunteer Private Music Option • You can earn up to 4 credits upon successful completion of Royal Conservatory Exams (Grade 5 and higher) • These credits DO NOT count towards the 30 required for graduation Are you fluent (read, write, speak) in another language? • You can earn up to 4 credits by taking a Special Language Exam Do you have a job? • You can earn up to 2 credits (1 credit = 110 Hrs) through Credit for Employment (CFE) , must have taken a Life Works course or will be taking one • You can earn up to 8 credits (1 credit = 110 Hrs) though the High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP) if you are working in a trade either under a Red Seal Journeyperson or a Designated Trainer (1 credit / 110 hours)
