Grade 10 Course Selection General Information

Ontario Secondary School Diploma 1) 30 Required Courses. *18 Compulsory and 12 Elective Credits. 2) 40 Hours of Community Service. 3) Successful completion of the OSSLT. - See Course Selection Process link for specific requirements

OSSLT (Literacy Test) The successful completion of the OSSLT is mandatory for graduation from an Ontario Secondary School. The test is traditionally completed in 2 nd semester Grade 10. Students in grade 10 will receive in-class prep for the test.

Ottawa Carleton Virtual School (OCV) All current OCV students must select courses for John Mc. Crae using Xello. Later in the spring, all students (JMSS and OCV) will be given the option to select OCV for September 2021. Course selections will transfer over from JMSS to OCV.

Alternate Course Selection You must select an Alternate Course. It will be used to replace an elective course option which: a) Is cancelled due to low enrollment b) Is conflicting with another selected course scheduled at the same time c) You are waitlisted for an elective course* *You will remain on the waitlist for your original course selection.

French Immersion Program *Completion of 10 credits in French Immersion over 4 years at JMSS. *You must complete 4 of the 10 Immersion credits in French (FIF) Class. Resource Period (Learning Strategies) ● You must have an IEP to take a Resource period. ● A Resource Period can be selected as an elective on Xello. The course code is GLE 2 O. ● Please contact your guidance counsellor if you have any questions.

Summer School July 2021 Summer School information will be available in April/May. Please select your courses assuming you are NOT going to Summer School for a Reach Ahead course. Course changes will be made later during Summer School registration, if needed.

Concert Band Jazz Band ● You will not be able to select Concert Band or Jazz Band in Xello. ● You must have signed up for either Instrumental Music, Guitar, or Vocals to sign up for Band. ● To select Concert or Jazz Band please fill out the Google Form at this link by Monday, March 8 th.

e. Learning (Online Courses) ● Selecting e. Learning courses on Xello will not register you in an e. Learning course. You will have the opportunity to register for e. Learning classes in the spring. ● Please choose 8 in-school courses, even if you are interested in taking e. Learning.

Dual Credit Courses on Xello ● Selecting Dual Credit courses on Xello will not register you for the Dual Credit Program. ● Please contact your guidance counsellor, or speak with Mr. Younger-Lewis in our Co-op department.
