GPS and Inspection Basics
GPS Basics n GPS = Global Positioning System n Requires minimum of 4 satellites’ signals. n PDOP < 8 (dilution of precision) n “R” for radio signal Realtime correction (or little tower symbol) n Trimble GPS unit with data collector (TDC 1, TSC 1, TDCe) or Trimble Geo. XT, Geo. XH, etc)
Satellite Signals n Number of satellites n Location of satellites. n Trees and buildings block satellites. n Satellites low on horizon not used. n High PDOP = poor configuration. n “Quick Plan”, in Pathfinder Office, to see satellite availability.
