GP Instructions for FIT stool test kit These instructions are to be used when requesting and issuing patients with the FIT stool test kit. For any further advice please contact the Clinical Biochemistry department. Requesting kits • FIT testing kits are issued as routine Pathology supplies and will be supplied in batches to Practices when ordered by the GP monthly Pathology Requisitions order form. • The kits should be stored at room temperature. Requesting Test in ICE Note that kits are stable at room temperature but return to the laboratory should be as soon as possible following collection. If there is delay in returning the sample, store this in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. • The test can be requested in ICE as ‘FIT’ • At the point of requesting please indicate ‘Collect later (unspecified)’ as time/date of collection. The date of collection must be completed by the patient on the request form. General Advice Items to give patient The following should be issued to the patient; FIT test kit ICE request form and green pathology pouch Patient instruction leaflet for using the kit (accompanies the kit, or available on ICE resources) • Please advise patient to read the instruction leaflet fully before collection. • The ICE demographic stickers can be attached to the FIT kit collection device and green bag. • Please indicate the location for the patient to complete the date of collection of the sample on the ICE form. Once collection completed the patient puts the collection kit within the small green bag and then this and the ICE form are sealed within the Green pathology pouch and this can be returned by the normal courier service (in the same manner as blood/urine samples etc) to the laboratory.
