screening to every resident of Doddaballapur taluka of Bangalore Rural district of Comstech • Oct. 15, 2020 Backgroun With the objective of providing opportunity for free vision d: Karnataka and provide spectacles to the needy to make the region Poor Vision Free and establish sustainable eye care service points for the Doddaballapura region. Project Namma Kannu Namma Doddaballapura was launched on 14 th September 2018 for duration of two years at Doddaballapura taluk as a CSR initiative taken by Essilor Vision Foundation a Non Profit Organization with District Health Office, Bangalore Rural District and Drishti Eye Hospital(project implementation partner). 2
WHY DODDABALLAPURA? • Doddaballapur is about 40 KM from Bengaluru famous for silk sarees and house weavers community and has one of the largest apparel park. • Around 67% of total population stay in rural areas spread across 376 villages. • Region has mix of both urban and rural population falling under Bo. P (base of pyramid)segment. • Based on actual field experience of screening 1, 50, 000 people in the region, approximately 21% to 25% of the population need correction of 3
Project Operational Model Project implementation is Monitored & Supervised by District Blindness Officer of Bangalore Rural District. 4
v The Mo. U was signed on 14 th September 2020 between District Health Officer, Bangalore Rural District and Essilor Vision foundation with project implementation partner of Drishti Eye Hospital. v Three Rural and two Urban teams work under the supervision of technical team. v ASHA workers are trained at the level of the PHC for primary eye screening. v PHCs doctor and optometrists are also part of the training and implementation. 5
v The trained ASHA workers with support from Essilor Nethra Sahayakas conduct door to door screening and the individuals identified with vision issues are invited to the camp through referral card. v Activities during house visit include eye screening of all age groups , data capture and counseling on the same day. 6
v After the screening, House Stickering is done. • Red indicates people detected with refractive error • Yellow indicates people with no refractive error. 7

v. People detected with refractive error or any other eye diseases are referred on subsequent day with a red referral card to mobile van. v. Fully equipped mobile van with all sophisticated equipments and qualified team does detailed Refraction for camps. 9
v During the camps based on the screening outcome, presbyopia spectacles are delivered to people on the spot. v For prescription cases (Rx lens), fitting is done at Essilor facility and delivered to end user at their door steps. v People detected with cataract & other eye diseases are referred to partner NGO eye hospital(Drishti Eye Hospital, Bangalore ). 10
v Apart from these activities, Eye Screening for school children & distribution of spectacles in free of cost is done. 11
v All activities monitored and supportive supervision done by the District Blindness Control Officer of Bangalore Rural District. 12
Evidence on Scalability : Namma Kannu Namma Doddaballapura Project Intervention: v. As on 14 th March 2020, Government of Karnataka and Essilor Vision Foundation has provided comprehensive eye screening services at the door steps of resident population in 279 villages and 31 urban wards out 376 villages. v. Around 1, 81, 565 people have got opportunity to get their eyes checked. Out of which 31, 890(18%) people had refractive error and they got free spectacles. v. Similar activity has been initiated at south Bidar constituency as CSR initiative. v. Since this is a win–win situation and working out at zero cost to Govt. it can be scaled up across Karnataka. 13
