Saint Patrick • • Lived during the 5 th Century Died on March 17 th Grew up wealthy in England Abducted by pirates at 16 A slave in Ireland for years Saved by Jesus Christ there Escaped back to England God called him to go back as a missionary to Ireland
Before I was humiliated; I was like a stone that lies in deep mud, and He who is mighty came and in His compassion raised me up and exalted me very high and placed me on the top of the wall. The Lord opened the understanding of my unbelieving heart, so that I should recall my sins.
I am Patrick, yes a sinner and indeed untaught; yet I am established here in Ireland where I profess myself bishop. I am certain in my heart that "all that I am, " I have received from God. So I live among barbarous tribes, a stranger and exile for the love of God. I am greatly God's debtor, because He granted me so much grace, that through me many people would be reborn in God.
If I have any worth, it is to live my life for God so as to teach these peoples; even though some of them still look down on me. May it never befall me to be separated by my God from His people whom He has won in this most remote land. I pray God that he gives me perseverance, and that He will deign that I should be a faithful witness for His sake right up to the time of my passing.
