Any other offenses are not grounds for divorce. “Becomes displeasing to him” can be due to various trivial transgressions, such as burning or over-salting a meal, spinning yarn in public, conversing with strangers, disrespecting the husband’s family, yelling loudly, even if “he found another woman who is better looking than her and wishes to marry her”. This is similar to how God allowed the hardhearted Israelites to have a king, even though God’s intention was to be their king Himself. God has His “sovereign will” and “permissive will”. “It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law, ” Jesus replied. “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female. ’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. ’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate. ” (Mark 10: 59)
