Goshen Market Foundation What is the Beet Box

Goshen Market Foundation

What is the Beet Box? The Beet Box is a Mobile Farmer’s Market that sells affordable produce to neighborhoods whose residents lack access to healthy foods as a result of food-desert conditions (i. e. , no grocery store within 1 mile of a residence).

Goshen Market Foundation In 2016, the Market strengthened its commitment to the local community by creating a 501(c)(3) tax exempt foundation with the mission of supporting a healthy local food community. The Goshen Market Foundation uses its resources to provide greater access to healthy food, encourage the growth of local agriculture, and educate children and the community about sustainable farming practices and nutrition.

SIUE English 315: Literature and Sustainability The Beet Box was an embedded service learning project in SIUE’s Spring 2018 Literature and Sustainability class. Tara Pohlman, Goshen Market Foundation President, was an embedded community instructor in the class and attended every Wednesday.
