Enrichment Assignment - April 22, 2020 Even though you are home all day and cannot travel in person, you can use Google Earth to travel the World virtually. For this week's assignment, you will learn how to use Google Earth is similar to Google Maps, which most of you have already learned in Enrichment class. Instructions for Google Earth are on the following slides. Once you have Google Earth working, pick a place you would really like to travel to. Use Google Earth to explore this place. Finally, reply to my email for this week and answer the following questions: 1. What place did you pick. 2. Why did you pick this place. 3. List 3 - 5 things you learned about this place using Google Earth. Due Date April 28, 2020
Google Earth Instructions
Step 1. 1. Login to your computer. 2. Open a browser window. You may use Google Chrome, Firefox, or another web browser. Note: I have tested this on Google Chrome and Firefox. Google Browser
Step 2. 1. Type Google Earth in the address box. 2. Press the enter key. Address Search Box
Step 3. 1. Scroll down until you see the Google Earth listing. 2. Pick the Google Earth listing. Address Search Results Window
Step 5. 1. You will now see the Google Earth introduction window. 2. Pick the “Skip” icon in the upper right hand corner. Next time you enter Google Earth, you may not see this window again. Google Earth Introduction Screen
Step 6. 1. You are now at the main Google Earth window. The icons on the left hand side allows you to explore any place on the Earth. The icons in the lower right hand corner control the various views. Main Google Earth Screen
Step 7. 1. To search for an address, pick the magnifying glass icon on the left hand side. 2. Type in the street address or name. 3. Press the enter key. 4. Google Earth will travel to the location and show you a satellite view. Example: Gear Park Elementary Google Earth Search Box
Step 8. 1. On the right hand side, you will see an information box for the location. 2. Press the white X to dismiss the box. You are now ready to use the icons in the lower right hand corner to change the view. (Go to step 7 to pick another location) Google Earth Location Information Box
Google Earth Navigation Icons. Home Location Street View 2 D or 3 D View Zoom In & Out North Up Whole Earth View Google Earth Main Screen
Google Earth Navigation Icons ● ● ● Home Location - Displays your home on the screen. Street View - Drag the person to a street to display street the level. 2 D/3 D - Pick to change from a flat view (2 D) to a really life view (3 D). - + Zoom out and zoom in. Compass - Rotates view to North on top of screen. Globe - Displays the Earth. Google Earth Screen Options Street View Home Location 2 D or 3 d View Zoom In & Out North Up Whole Earth View
Street View - 3 D ● ● ● The street view allows you to move around the streets as if you were driving. To move forward or back, press the arrows on the street. To turn at an intersection, place your mouse on the side street and press you left mouse button. Please Note: Not all locations in Google Earth have the 3 D or Street View option. Street View - Mouse Options ● ● ● The scroll wheel on your mouse works as a zoom. You can zoom in or out with your scroll wheel. If you hold your left mouse button down during street view, you can spin the view 360 degrees. The right mouse button in Street View does not done work. Assignment K - 5 - Reminder ● For this week learn how to use Google Earth. ● Next, pick a place you would like to visit and enter it into Google Earth. The location can be anywhere in the World. ● Then, reply back to the email I sent you this week, answering the following questions: 1. What location/place did you visit? 2. Why did you pick this place? 3. List 3 - 5 things you noticed about this place on Google Earth. If for some reason you are not able to get Google Earth to work, please email me.
