Background • Presented on potential for broader federal coordination with Google on the Earth product line at August CG meeting • Recommendation from CG to move forward gathering more information • Appear to be at least three common issues for investigation • End User License Agreement for Earth Clients • Licensing options for Pro / Enterprise Client • Evaluation of Fusion / Server
Information Request Responses • Sent two information requests to FGDC CG email list • Responses from 12 of 26 FGDC Departments/Agencies • Virtually all FGDC members responding are using Google Earth technologies at a variety of levels • Purchasing options currently being used • Most agencies acquire Google products via GSA schedule (Onix Networking Corp. ) • Enterprise Licensing Agreements – NGA and NASA • Potential volume purchasing – DOI, EPA, and NOAA • Limited use of Server/Fusion – NASA, NGA, USACE
Next Steps • Opportunity to get ahead of adoption curve of the technology and work collectively to develop federal model for purchasing and utilization of Google Earth technology • Geo Lo. B Task 9: Expand smart-buy (and alternatives) efforts for geospatial data and technologies and consider shared licenses for smaller agencies which could be managed by a designated agency • ROI: Cost avoidance through demonstrated reduction in unit costs and total cost of licensing for data, technology and services • Request for CG decision – recommend Geo Lo. B Task Force take as action at meeting on October 4
