Google Classroom Getting Started: Step-By-Step
Signing into Classroom - 1 st time 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Go to classroom. google. com and click “Go to Classroom” Enter your SEDOL username and click “Next” Enter your SEDOL password and click “Next” If there is a welcome message, read it and click “Accept” Teachers: Select “I’m a Teacher” Your students: Select “I’m a Student: Click “Get Started”
Teachers - Create a Class 1. On the Classroom home page, select +>Create Class 2. 3. Enter the class name. You can also optionally add a description, subject, and/or room for the class Click “Create”
Teachers- Invite Students 1. 2. From your main Class page, select “People” from the top of the page Click the add person symbol next to Students 3. Type in the students’ Sedol Google account (including the @sedol. us!) 4. Select Invite
Add a Co-Teacher 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. From your main Class page, select “People” from the top of the page Click the add person symbol next to Teachers Enter the SEDOL email address of the staff member you would like to add From the Search results, click the staff member. You can repeat steps 3 -4 if needed Click “Invite”
Change the Class Theme 1. 2. From your Stream page, click “Select Theme” Choose an option: a. b. Select an image from the gallery and then click “Select Class Theme” Click “Patterns”, select a color and pattern, and click “Select Class Theme”
Settings - Who can post to Stream 1. 2. From your class page, choose Settings Click “Students can post and comment” and click a permission to select it: a. b. c. Students can post and comment—This permission is the default. Students can create a post on the Stream page and comment on any item. Students can only comment—Students can comment on an existing post, but not create a post. Only teachers can post or comment— Students can't comment on or create posts on the Stream page. This permission is the same as muting all students.
Create an Assignment 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. From your class page, select “Classwork” at top At the top, click “Create > Assignment” Enter the title and any instructions Optional: Add due date and time Select “Assign” OR choose “Schedule” or “Save Draft”
Adding Attachments to an Assignment ● You can add attachments to your assignment, such as files from your computer, Google Drive files, You. Tube videos, or links. ● To decide how students interact with an attachment, next to the attachment, click the Down Arrow and choose an option: ○ ○ ○ Students can view file—All students can read the file, but not edit it. Students can edit file—All students share the same file and can make changes to it. Make a copy for each student—Students get their own copy of the file with their name added to the document title. For Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides files, both you and the student can edit the document. When students turn in the assignment, they can’t edit the document until you return it to them.
