Exercise 1 n Please follow the following script with the tape “audio 18. mp 3” “concurrently”.
Exercise 1 n Recently, there has been published research that claims that body weight can be directly linked to personality traits. Medical experts group body types into three different categories: ectomorphic, mesomorphic, and endomorphic. The ectomorphic body type has a thin physique, with light bones and underdeveloped muscles. The mesomorphic body type resembles that of an athlete - strong, well-developed bones, and well-built muscles. The endomorphic body type tends to have a heavy physique, possibly overweight with poorly developed bones and muscles. After conducting hundreds of interviews and countless surveys, psychologists matched each body type with a general personality category. For example, the physically thinner, ectomorphic body types tended to be more sensitive, self-conscious, introspective, and generally quiet people. At the opposite end, the physically heavier, endomorhpic body types were sociable, easygoing, relaxed and pleasure-loving. Meanwhile, the more athletic, mesomorphic body types were aggressive, ready for action with an inkling for adventure and more prone to interact with strangers. Now, although the personality characteristics did actually follow the three different body types, there were inconsistencies in data. This controversial theory has led certain psychologists and medical experts to disagree over the validity of such research. Opponents warn against associating personality traits with physical appearance simply because during the average life span, people's looks greatly change without much alteration in temperament.
