Act I Iago: Iago is in cahoots with Roderigo who is giving him money Brabantio: (a powerful politician) is upset with his main Brabantio man, Othello, for eloping with his daughter, Desdemona Othello: Othello is an important army general who is not afraid of Brabantio (his boss and his father in law) Cassio: Cassio Othello’s lieutenant is flirtatious and easy prey for Iago

Act I The Duke: Is not sympathetic towards Brabantio and Duke stands behind his general, Othello: Tells the story of how he and Desdemona fell in Othello love (sans magic and witchcraft) War: War The Duke needs Othello on guard and ready for the oncoming Turkish fleet The Situation: Othello, his ensign and their ladies are Situation all to go to Cyprus to prepare

Act II Turks: Turks The Turkish fleet is destroyed by a storm and is no longer a threat Cassio: Cassio Gets to Cyprus first and greets the rest of the group Iago: Iago Capitalizes on Desdemona’s kindness and plants a seed of doubt about Cassio and Desdemona in Othello’s head Wife For Wife: Iago professes that he loves Wife Desdemona; also that the thought of Othello with his wife plagues his thoughts. This suggests that he wants to defile Desdemona either by sleeping with her or other means. Gross.

Act II Othello: Othello Declares a victory and orders a party Othello leaves Cassio in charge and tells him to The Party: restrain himself (don’t drink too much!). Cassio does not follow orders. The Fight: Iago sends Roderigo after a drunk Cassio (he’s a fighter). They come running back into the scene with Cassio chasing Roderigo. Montano: Montano (Governor of Cyprus) tries to stop the fight and Cassio attacks him. Resolution: Othello wants to hear the story; Iago ‘gives in’ and retells the story with Cassio in the worst possible light.

Act II Othello: Othello Drops Cassio from his position Cassio: Is beyond distraught by losing his position. Iago tells Cassio that he should talk to Desdemona and convince her to convince Othello to get his job back Roderigo: Roderigo Wants to go back to Venice; Iago convinces him not to. The next step: Iago is going to ask his wife (Emilia) to talk to Desdemona about getting Cassio his job back and make sure Othello sees Cassio talk to Desdemona
