Newspapers articles always follow this order: • Headline • By line • Lead Paragraph • Detail including sources They often have: • Photographs • A caption commenting on the photograph Read through the article, ‘Suspension for teacher for tying a pupil to a chair’. With your partner, can you find these features?
Questions to think about: • What person is it written in? • Can you see any commas to mark clauses? • How does the journalist make you feel sympathetic towards the teacher?

Letter Play Puns a word in a sentence that can have two meanings. Rhyme Clean and Catchy. Changing a letter in a word to give a double meaning. Alliteration Using the same letter sound at the start of your words can create an interesting effect.

Direct or Reported Speech? Ian Mc. Shane, a very hard-working child in 6 T, was heard to say: “Year 6 is the best year ever!” When questioned regarding Manchester United Football team, Mr Todd, of North Lancing School, explained his feelings of love and admiration for the club.
