Literary Terms n You are responsible for knowing all of these terms for the unit test at the end of this unit
Drama n A story written to be acted out on a stage with actors and actresses taking the parts of specific characters (a play)
n Act A major division of a play. Short plays often have 1 act. Modern plays have 3.
Scene n. A smaller division in a play occurring within one act
Playwright n The author of the play n Ex. William Gibson is the playwright of The Miracle Worker
Script n Written form of a play
Stage Directions n Written in italics, these tell the actors where they should stand on the stage and how their lines should be spoken (tells actions and feelings)
DRAMATIC DIALOGUE n Character names used when the character speaks n Stage directions replace description of action n Scene background used at the beginning of each scene
Narrator n The person who is telling the story; in a play it’s the person who ‘fills in pieces’ or gives additional information to the audience
