DEFINITIONS • Golf Cart – A motor vehicle originally designed and manufactured to carry

DEFINITIONS • Golf Cart – A motor vehicle originally designed and manufactured to carry golfers and their equipment (MVA) • Pedestrian – A person who is walking, jogging, inline skating, skateboarding, bicycling, or those using wheelchairs or mobility assistance devices • Authorized Driver – A person who has been trained in the operation of golf carts by the approved trainers through the Facilities Management Department 6

GOLF CART SAFETY POLICY AND PROCEDURE • Created January 2013; Updated October 2015 • References Work. Safe BC, Motor Vehicle Act, and Motor Vehicle Act Regulation. • The PURPOSE is to protect personnel and property from golf cart incidents resulting from injury or damages. It outlines mandatory safety procedures, rules, and establishes controls through the use of an Acknowledgement Form. • Applies to the operation of all golf carts on campus. • Please take 10 minutes to read the policy document. The information therein will form the basis of the test. 7

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS • Ownership – The unit utilizing the golf cart is responsible for

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS • Ownership – The unit utilizing the golf cart is responsible for all aspects of the cart's lifecycle (i. e. purchase, maintenance, and repair costs) • Authorized Use – Golf Carts on campus are to be used for work purposes and other 'responsible usage' by authorized drivers only. Golf carts should not be taken off campus grounds and operators must adhere to the Golf Cart Safety Policy and Procedure and attend annual training. • Equipment – All golf carts require the following safety equipment: • Horn, headlights and taillights, mirrors, reversing alarm, brake lights : 8

REGISTRATION & APPROVAL • All golf carts whether leased, rented or owned by the UBC Okanagan must be registered with ICBC prior to being operated on campus. • Operators are required to have a valid driver's license and complete annual training. • Operators are required to abide by all applicable motor laws and should drive the vehicle at speeds appropriate for pedestrians and road conditions. 9

VEHICLE OPERATION (SECTION 7. 0 – GOLF CART SAFETY RULES • Remember that pedestrians have the right of way ALWAYS! • All body parts – feet, legs and arms shall be kept inside the vehicle while it is in motion. • Check the area behind the vehicle before backing up. • Slow down before turns. All turns shall be executed at reduced speeds. • Observe the limit of one person per seat (two per bench seat). • Always remain seated and hold on while the vehicle is in motion. 11

Remove the key and lock brake. • Drive the vehicle only as fast as terrain and safety considerations allow. • Obey all traffic rules. • Avoid travel in the Main Courtyard. Do not drive on the grass, stay on sidewalks and roadways. • Smoking, eating, drinking and mobile phone usage are prohibited when operating UBCO golf carts. 12
