Preparing for Middle School We took a Middle School Tour. We had a meeting with the counselors. We registered for classes. We are having this guidance lesson. This summer you will practice using a combination lock. § You will show up on time and with your supplies on the first day of 6 th grade. § § §
Lunch Time Cafeteria While the food may be better, DMS cafeteria comes with more responsibility. Here you have more choice in what you eat and where you sit; the trick is to make decisions that will keep it that way.
IF you have a locker Combination locks are difficult the first few times. During Summer Break, take time to practice on your actual lock. You also may need to buy a lock for your gym locker; buy it early so you can practice over the summer. Top and bottom lockers- be aware of others around you.
In the Middle School Classroom Desks are different! Each teacher will tell you where to put your books.
In the Middle School The Library is larger than the one at Elementary School, with more books, magazines and computers.
Middle School Expectations Each teacher and each area may have different rules. You are expected to follow all of them.
Changing Classes You have a few minutes to get to your next class. Tardy=detention, and each class that you’re late for is a separate tardy.
This Summer… § Buy a combination lock if your Middle School has assigned lockers; you can practice using it during the summer. § Check your Middle School website for school supply lists and updates. § Use the Middle School website to look at sixth grade teachers’ pages and become familiar with their expectations. § Relax, going to Middle School is a fun and exciting part of life. You are going to have a great time. § Start your first day well-rested, prepared, and ready to be successful in Middle School.
