Going for Great! – Our Impact On Our World At home, the children are expected to do the following daily tasks: ● ● Practise ‘Learn-Its’ using Times Tables Rock Stars (at least one ‘garage’ session a day) Practise the weekly spelling words and the Year 5 and Year 6 word list words Read and learn the facts on this term’s Knowledge Organisers. Read for 30 minutes! Designed in collaboration with Year Six pupils. Going for Great Activities If they want to, children can also work with an adult at home and projects from our list below, which are all based on curriculum areas that we’ll be covering this half-term. They will earn house-point Dojos for this when they bring them into school. Those children going ‘above and beyond’ will be recognised in our regular Friday ASPIRE assemblies. Remember, these projects are designed to improve parental engagement with children’s education through the platform of home-learning, so we hope that you enjoy doing lots of these jobs together, but being led by the children! Science (Light) – Make your own periscope to demonstrate that light travels in straight lines. Geography (Resources & Trade) – With ‘Brexit’ in mind, create a fact-file on the United Kingdom’s most imported and exported products to and from the EU. RE (The Christmas Story) – Discover where our modern Christmas traditions originate from and whether or not they are indeed religious or secular. English / 21 st Century Skills (Argue effectively) – Write a letter to your local MP to persuade them to implement a new initiative of choice relating to protecting the environment. PSHE (Celebrating difference) – Produce a short biography on a famous disabled person detailing what they are well known for. Art (William Morris) – Make printing blocks from materials that would have ended up in landfill and then create artistic patterns on A 4 paper. Bring your creations into school! French (Les vetements) – Design a new Vineyard School uniform and label your illustration using the relevant French vocabulary for the individual pieces and the colours. PE (CV fitness) – Devise your very own ‘Joe Wicks Workout’, film yourself training with your friends & family, and then show the vid to the class. English - Write a balanced argument about whether global trade is good for the world. Maths (Co-ordinates) – Learn how to play Battleships and challenge your family members. Bring a photo of you playing into school. D & T (Cooking) - A local meal: plan, prepare and cook a meal using only fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Think carefully about what ‘locallysourced’ means. Computing (Spreadsheets) – Create a simple spreadsheet detailing how many pieces of your weekly household waste are recyclable or non-recyclable. Present your findings in a pie chart.
