God’s Redeeming Love Part 5 – “The Secret of the Easy Yoke” Hosea 4: 1 -19

ISRAEL THREW OFF GOD’S YOKE (Hosea 4: 1 -3; 16)

Deuteronomy 7: 9 (ESV) 9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations

ISRAEL DIDN’T KNOW GOD (Hosea 4: 4 -6) Disobedience stems from not knowing God as we should.

Romans 1: 18– 25 (ESV) 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly

perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and

animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

ISRAEL DIDN’T KNOW GOD (Hosea 4: 4 -6) Disobedience stems from not knowing God as we should. Knowledge of God without a change in mind and heart is the very thing that condemns mankind. God’s workings throughout Israel’s history was so that His people might know Him.

Exodus 6: 7 (ESV) 7 I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you shall know that I am the LORD your God, who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

Exodus 16: 12 (ESV) 12 “I have heard the grumbling of the people of Israel. Say to them, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. Then you shall know that I am the LORD your God. ’ ”

Joshua 4: 23 -24 (ESV) 23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, 24 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, that you may fear the LORD your God forever. ”

1 Kings 18: 37 -38 (ESV) 37 Answer me, O LORD, answer me, that this people may know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back. ” 38 Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

Psalm 100: 3 (ESV) 3 Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

ISRAEL YOKED THEMSELVES TO SIN (Hosea 4: 7 -15, 17 -19)

Proverbs 7: 21 -23 (ESV) With much seductive speech she persuades him; with her smooth talk she compels him. 22 All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast 23 till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life. 21

ISRAEL YOKED THEMSELVES TO SIN (Hosea 4: 7 -15, 17 -19) Stay away from sin, and stay close to God.
