Abraham and his wife Sarah, lived in a place called Ur. Abraham was a faithful man of God. One day God told Abraham to take all his family and belongings and settle in a new land called Canaan and start a new nation of people.
God made a promise with Abraham: He said to Abraham, "Trust me, leave everything that is familiar behind, and go to a land which I will show you. Do this and I will give you this land make you a great nation. "
So Abraham and Sarah travelled many months, till they came to the land of Canaan which God had promised them. When Abraham first saw the new land, he built an altar to glorify God. How would you feel if you were told to leave your house and move to another country?

When Abraham arrived in Canaan, God made a promise. He said “ I will give you this land for your descendants and some of them will be kings”.
Abraham did not have any descendants (children). He was old and his wife was unable to have children. However God promised him a child and that his children would have children and so on. This would become a nation of people.
Abraham’s Test As God had promised, Abraham and his wife had a son called Isaac. God came to Abraham and said that if he loved him, he would sacrifice his son. Just as Abraham was about to kill Isaac, God stopped him and said “you have proved that you are devoted to me”.
God re-affirmed his promise to Abraham and said “ I will give you as many descendants as there are stars in the sky and grains of sand along the seashore” Abraham’s children went on to have children and their children went on to have children and so on. This was the early origins of the Jewish religion and their faith in God.
