Setting the Scene David crowned King of Judah in Hebron David crowned King of all Israel – 7 years later David conquers Jerusalem David brings the ark up to Jerusalem A set back! Obed-Edom’s house The ark finally arrives

God’s Promise to David’s Idea “Here I am living in a palace of Cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent “ (2) God’s Response I will make your name great, like the greatest men of the earth (9) I will provide a place for my people Israel (10) the LORD himself will establish a house for you (11) A son who will build the temple The promise that his son will not be rejected like Saul David’s throne will be established for ever

God’s Promise to David… David’s ideas were not bad, but God’s ideas were better The right idea The wrong time The wrong man BUT - he kept the vision David’s ideas were relatively short-term, but God’s were eternal The promise to David had two parts The promise to David had two timeframes David wanted to bless God, but God wanted to bless David

David’s Response David offers a humble prayer of praise David claims the promise God has given him …it brings glory to God for people to see God keeping his promises . . . when God promises something he means us to keep Him to his Word How can we pray like this? keep remembering all God has done Take time to know God’s will Persevere in claiming God’s promises

…in conclusion Our ideas may not be bad, but God’s ideas are better Our ideas may be short-term, but God’s are eternal God wants to bless us more than we realise Above all: Give thanks and remember all God has done for us in the past. take time trying to find God’s will If God gives us a promise we need to hold Him to it however long it may take. God always keeps his promises.
