God’s Plan for Man’s Redemption (3)

• God’s scheme of redemption (scheme means a plan, though often we think of the word as sinister or something secretive) • Some times we need to step back and get the bigger picture • God had a plan for man’s redemption Romans 15: 4

God’s Plan from Eternity • Included a seed promise Genesis 3: 15, 12: 1 -3, etc. • A throne promise – Gen. 49: 8 -10, 2 Samuel 7 • Blood - Gen. 3: 21, Exo. 12: 13, Leviticus 16, 17, Hebrews 9: 22 • Water – Gen. 6 -7, Exodus 14 • His word & Law - Exo. 20, Jer. 31: 31 -34

The fullness of time • Ephesians 1: 10, Galatians 4: 4 • It was the right time – many factors made this so – general peace, roads, universal language, LXX, writing materials, messianic expectation, etc.

The Seed promise fulfilled • Matthew 1: 1, Jesus was of the lineage of Abraham and David • Luke 3: 23 -28 • Galatians 3: 8 -9, 15 -16 the promise to Abraham (Gen. 12: 3) fulfilled in Jesus

The Throne promise fulfilled • A continuation of the seed promise (2 Sam. 7) • Matthew 1: 1, Jesus of the seed of David Romans 1: 3 • Luke 1: 32 -33, to Jesus “the Lord God will give Him the throne of his father David. ”

The Throne promise fulfilled • NOTE: Jesus can ONLY fulfill this promise in heaven. • Jehoiachin (Jeconiah, Coniah, ), a descendant of David’s regal lineage, was the last successive king in that dynasty. He was evil and carried away to Babylon (2 Kings 24: 8 -12, Jer. 27: 20, 37: 1). • Jeremiah 22: 28 -30, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Write this man down as childless, A man who shall not prosper in his days; For none of his descendants shall prosper, Sitting on the throne of David, And ruling anymore in Judah. ’ ”

The Throne promise fulfilled • Jesus is in heaven, seated at the right hand of God! • Acts 2: 32 -36, Jesus is exalted to the right hand of God and has been made “both Lord and Christ” • Mark 16: 19, Acts 5: 31, Hebrews 10: 12, 12: 2 • 1 Corinthians 15: 24 -28 – He must reign until all enemies subjected to Him (including death)

The Blood of Jesus • Blood has always been important! • Gen. 3: 21, tunic of animal skin • Patriarchal sacrifices • The covenant at Mt. Sinai, Exodus 24: 3 -8 (Heb. 9: 18 -21) • Leviticus 16, the Day of Atonement • Leviticus 17: 11, the sanctity of blood. Why? Life is in the blood and it makes atonement for the soul

The Blood of Jesus • In dealing with sin God has ALWAYS demanded a price be paid! A better sacrifice was • Romans 6: 23, the wages of sin is needed death • Heb. 9: 22, without the shedding of blood there is no remission! • Heb. 10: 4, the blood of bulls and goats was not sufficient!
