Required Equipment (Me Afloat) Lifejacket person (Others Afloat) Throw-able floatation (seat cushion) (Audio) Horn or Whistle (Visual) Flares Fire Extinguisher (motor only)
It is club policy that all persons wear life vests!! Feel free to bring your own if you find the standard type uncomfortable.

Sailing in strong winds (But not Dangerous) 15 -20 knots Prepare: • Wear life jackets • Reef the main sail • Stay close to port • Plan a safe course • Sail without jib

• Tie up to Mooring (or Pier post) • Rig and Raise sails • Fall off to Starboard Mud • Port Tack NE WIND!
Mud SE WIND!
• Fall off to port • Close hauled • Tack as necessary Mud SE WIND!
Mud SW WIND!
• Fall off to starboard • Beam Reach • Starboard Tack Mud SW WIND!
Mud NW WIND!
• Fall off to starboard • Run Mud • Beware of Jibing NW WIND!
Before Leaving Slip: • Dress Appropriately - Think about …. • Sunscreen and head-cover (wind removal!) • Sunglasses - polarized preferred • Water (dehydration => headaches) • Rubber (non-marking) sole shoes • Barefoot NOT recommended • Windbreaker (quick-dry) - ‘layered’ dress • Warmer clothing in ditty bag • Foul weather gear, spare winch handle, . . . • Car door key on necklace • Leave all “essentials” on shore! • Eyeglasses on-a-rope • Spare clothes in car • CAMERA!
Leaving: • Remove boat cover - Fill out Checklist • Rudder & Centerboard Up • Move boat to end of pier - paddling & boat hook • Start Rigging Boat • Leave Sails Down • Finish rigging • Sails Up • Rudder & Centerboard Down • Instruct crew on take off plan • Cast off Bow Line and Sail
