God The Creator and Redeemer Benchmark Assignment for
God: The Creator and Redeemer Benchmark Assignment for HTH 515 Christian Doctrines By: John Medford
This Presentation Will Include: #1: Describe What Can Be Learned About God As The Creator From Genesis 1 -3 #2: Describe God’s Ongoing Role As Sustainer of Creation As Evidenced In Scripture #3: Identify Biblical Passages Linking Jesus’ Deity, Role In Creation, and Status As Redeemer #4: Provide Three Brief Theological Reflections Connecting God’s Love For Creation and His Salvific Action In and Through The Person of Jesus Christ
#1: God Has Always Existed And Created Everything In The Universe • God Created All Things In This Universe and Heavens, Therefore We Know That He Has Always Existed “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ” (Genesis 1: 1 NKJV)
A: God Creates Order Amongst The Disorder and His Spirit Was Present On Earth In The Beginning “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. ” (Genesis 1: 2 NKJV) • The Scripture Tells Us That “The Earth Was Without Form”. God Was Able To Arrange All The Forms of The Earth and Perfect It Into His Purpose and Glory. The Scripture Also Mentions That God’s Spirit Was Hovering Over The Face of The Waters As There Had Not Been Any Land Formed Yet, Therefore He Was Hovering Over All The Earth.
B: God Created All Of Creation In Six Days And On The Seventh Day He Rested • This Seventh Day Is Holy and Shows That Even God Rested To Take a Day Of Rest. “And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. ” (Genesis 2: 2 NKJV) • This Was Not Only The Order of Creation, But a Perfect Example of The Way Life Was Naturally Meant To Be In Areas Such as Organization, Labor, Rest, And Creation’s Dependence Upon God Himself. (exp. Gen. 1: 1 -2)
C: God Loved His Creation of Mankind and Made Him a Helper • God Made Adam a Helper And Mate In Eve (Gen. 2: 18 -22) • He Also Placed Adam In a Bountiful Paradise Of The Garden of Eden (Gen. 2: 8 -17) • Man and Woman Were Joined In Union and Became “One Flesh”. This Is The Divine Standard and Order of Marriage, Which Was Ordained By God. (Gen. 2: 23 -25)
D: The “Serpent” (Satan) • The Enemy Has Been Present on Earth For At Least As Far Back In History As Genesis 3 and Possibly Since Between Genesis 1: 1 and 1: 2 • Sin Produces: Curses, Fear, Shame, and Blame As Evidenced By Genesis 3: 6 -24 • God Took Man From The Garden And Placed Him In The World Outside. However, God Continued To Love Man
#2: God’s Role As Sustainer of Creation Since God Created All Creatures, He Has Always Sustained It. Nothing That Happens To God’s Creation Goes Unnoticed In The Kingdom of God. “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. ” Hebrews 4: 13
A: After Punishment God Sustained All Creation After God Punished Mankind With The Curse And Expulsion From The Garden, He Continued To Sustain Mankind With All His Needs. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. (Colossians 1: 17 NKJV) But who am I, and who are my people, That we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, And of Your own we have given You. (1 Chronicles 29: 14)
B: Our Continued Existence Is Proof He Sustains Us “The LORD does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths“ (Psalms 135: 6 NKJV) “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? ” (Matthew 6: 26 NKJV) If God Never Offered Anything Else For Us In Order To Restore Us Back To Him, There Is Still Proof Of His Existence All Around. This Is Why He States In Luke 19: 40, “the stones will cry out”, Much of Mankind Refuses To Worship Him For How Good God Is, Yet He Continuously Blesses Us In Spite of This. Despite Our Actions, He Continues To Hold Off His Judgement And Return Of Christ To Allow Mankind To Repent
#3: Jesus Is Divine, Had A Role In Creation, and Is Man’s Redeemer • Jesus Has Always Been a Part Of The Triune Godhead. He Was Present With The Father at Creation and Even Took Part In It. • Jesus Is The Second Member Of The Holy Trinity And Always Has Been, Even While Present On Earth. He Was Both Man and God. • Through His Death, Burial, and Resurrection On Earth Jesus Redeemed Mankind.
A: Jesus Is A Member of The Holy Trinity, Making Him God • Jesus Christ Is and Was Deity, Just As God The Father and Holy Spirit. Scripture Throughout The New And Old Testament Give Us Evidence of His Deism: Isaiah 9: 6 ; 43; 44 John 1: 1 -3; 10: 30 -33; 14: 6 -7; 20: 28 Acts 4: 12; 20: 28 Colossians 2: 9 Hebrews 1: 8 All Three Members Were Present In Mark 1: 10 -11 Beth Jones emphasizes Jesus as a member of the Trinity when she says, “The Triune God is the one God of Israel; God did not become Trinity at some point in time. Rather, God is eternally Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. ” 1 The Council of Nicea (325) also confirmed the doctrine of pre-existence as a major tenet of faith for the Church. 2 Beth Felker Jones. B: Jesus Had A Role In Creation And Stands As Our True Redeemer • Jesus Was Not Only Present • Christ Is Our Redeemer As The Second Member Of Who Took On The Cross The Trinity During Creation, of Calvary For Us So That But Also Took On A Role Our Sins May Be Forgiven During Creation As Well: And We May Be Set Free Colossians 1: 16 -17 and John From The Curse of Death: 1: 3 * The Evangelical Dictionary of Theology Also Attributes Colossians 1: 16 -17 As Proof Of Jesus’ Presence At Creation. He Was Sinless As Said in Hebrews 4: 15 and 9: 14. He Was Redeemer In Luke 21: 28 and Our Resurrected King In 1 Corinthians 15 Elwell, Walter, A. He Created Man In His Own Image (Gen 1: 26 -28) #2. He Gave His Only Begotten Son (John 3: 16) #3. He Gives Us The Free Will To Choose (Genesis 1: 26 -28, Matthew 22: 37, and Proverbs 21: 5)
