 • The Bible is the Word of God (II Timothy 3: 16 -17),

• The Bible is the Word of God (II Timothy 3: 16 -17), and many lines of evidence may be used to confirm this fact (supernatural unity of the Bible, prophecy and fulfillment, scientific foreknowledge of the Bible writers, etc. ). • Tonight we are going to notice one line of evidence which supports the claims of the Bible's inspiration: the findings of archaeology.

 • Dr. Nelson Glueck-"It may be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has

• Dr. Nelson Glueck-"It may be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverted a Biblical reference. Scores of archaeological findings have been made which confirm in clear outline or exact detail historical statements in the Bible. And, by the same token, proper evaluation of Biblical descriptions has often led to amazing discoveries. "

• The Chinese language is one of the oldest in the world, and it should not therefore surprise us that the truths of the book of Genesis are found hidden within this language.

 • "In summary, we find that the written langauge of China was conceived

• "In summary, we find that the written langauge of China was conceived during the primeval, monotheistic period, when the religious concepts were still pristine and the history of earlier ages unmuddied by later innovations. This ancient pictographic and ideographic language has survived unscathed, and we believe bears a witness to the original beliefs of the Chinese, handed down by oral tradition.

 • "The record contained by many specific characters carries such a close similarity

• "The record contained by many specific characters carries such a close similarity to the Hebrew Genesis that it would seem only logical to believe that both civilizations must have access to the same common historical knowledge. Acquaintance with the true early religious background of the Chinese therefore makes Genesis correlation more credible and understandable. " (C. H. Kang and Ethel R. Nelson, The Discovery Of Genesis: How The Truths Of Genesis Were Found Hidden In The Chinese Language, 407 -413 (Kindle Edition); St. Louis, MO; Concordia Publishing House)

• "In remote times, ca 2000 BC, as the original Chinese settlers entered the country, they were joined by another group traveling up through Indo-China. They were soon dubbed the Miaotsu by the Chinese population, a somewhat derogatory term, the miao-element meaning 'barbarian' or 'outsider. • "In an ancestral song recited since time immemorial by the Miaotsu at funerals, weddings and like occasions, and in which all the above details are included, we find the following remarkable account enshrined in that song. Of great interest to us is the fact that the song is written in couplets, which not only aids the memory of those who have to recite it, but also ensures that additions and interpolations are impossible in insert.

• "It is also worth bearing in mind that this song was already of great antiquity when Christian missionaries first encountered the Miaotsu, a people so introverted and shut off from the outside world, that they had no idea that the earth was even round. But the writers of this ancient song knew it, and knew it of old. They know many other things too. Consider the opening lines:

But fought with each other defying the Godhead. But their leaders shook fists in the face of the Mighty. . .

• "So it poured forty days in sheets and in torrents, then fifty-five days of misting an drizzle. The waters surmounted the mountains and ranges. The deluge ascending leapt valley and hollow. A earth with no earth upon which to take refuge! A world with no foothold where one might subsist! The people were baffled, impotent and ruined, despairing, horror-stricken, diminished and finished. . .

• "He's speaking in words, but they can't understand him. So the city they builded was never completed; the tower they wrought has to stand thus unfinished. In despair then they separate all under heaven, they part from each other the globe to encircle. They arrive at six corners and speak the six languages. Then it suddenly all stopped…However, it is evident that the completion of the king’s pyramid was not the reason why kahun’s inhabitants eventually deserted the town, abandoning their tools and other possessions in the shops and hops While there are different opinions of how this first period of occupation at kahun drew to a close, the quantity, range, and type of articles of everyday use that were left behind in the houses may indeed suggest that the departure was very sudden and unplanned. • There also some other fascinating things about this Pharaoh. • First, one of his predecessors was a man named Kamose. He was a Pharaoh who was greatly concerned about the "Asiatics. " He was worried that these "slaves" would rise up with the enemies of Egypt (cf. Exodus 1: 7 -22).

 • Second, Kamose and his descendants were responsible for having the Hebrews build

• Second, Kamose and his descendants were responsible for having the Hebrews build the cities of Pithom and Raamses. According to ancient records, Raamses was actually first the city of Avaris, which was populated by "the shepherd kings. " Remember that according to Genesis 47, Joseph brought the Hebrews to a part of Egypt where they could live and survive. Interestingly enough, a scarab found among one of these 'shepherd kings' had the inscription 'Jacob-El, ' or 'Jacob's God. '

 • Third, the family of Kamose had an interesting element to their names.

Notice: Ahmose, Kamose, Ahmose-Nefertari, Ahmose-Hennuttamehu, Ahmose-Sipair, Ahmose-Henutemipet, Ahmose-Meritamon, Ahmose-Nebetta, and Ahmose-Tumerisy. • Notice how the "mose" is found in the names of his descendants, and compare with "MOSES. "

 • Fourth, according to some Egyptian historians, Thutmose II died in the year

• Fourth, according to some Egyptian historians, Thutmose II died in the year 1486 the year of the Exodus! Compare this with Exodus 14. • Finally, according to Thutmose III (the next Pharaoh after Thutmose II), by his time the Asiatics were gone. He wrote in a hymn to his god, Amon-Re, '. . . "cut down are the heads of the Asiatics. . . , there is not a remnant of them. "

 • ". . But the Bible never specifically identifies the pharaoh of the

• ". . But the Bible never specifically identifies the pharaoh of the Exodus by name, although it does tell us the exact date of the Exodus. I Kings 6: 1 states that Solomon began building the Temple in the fourth year of his reign, 480 years after the Exodus. The temple was started in 1012 B. C. , which was derived by adding up all the years that the Judean kings ruled including Solomon and adding that number to 587 B. C. , the date the last king ruled in Jerusalem at its destruction by Babylon.

 • "The calculation is as follows: Total reign of the Judean kings &

• "The calculation is as follows: Total reign of the Judean kings & Solomon=434 years x 360 day Biblical year/365=428 + 587 B. C. =1015 B. C. The temple was started in the 4 th year of his reign which would be 1012 B. C. . So the approxmiate date of the Exodus can be calculated: 1012 B. C. + (480 years x 360 day Biblical year/365)=(1486 B. C. ). And according to history, Pharaoh Ramesses did not begin his reign until around 1290 B. C. , so he couldn't have been the Exodus pharaoh. . .

 • "To get some clues, let's look at what the Bible says about

• "To get some clues, let's look at what the Bible says about the events surrounding the life of Moses. The first place we will start is with the date of his birth. Exodus 7: 7 states the following: 'Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh. ' Adding 80 years tot he date of the Exodus in 1486 B. C. equals 1565 B. C. ; the approximate year in which Moses was born. . .

 • "To get our first clue, we will start with the Bible's statement

• "To get our first clue, we will start with the Bible's statement in Exodus 1: 8 which says that a kind had come to power who knew not Joseph and began to oppress Israel. Joseph as you recall was second only to Pharaoh during his days and was put in charge of building grain storage and supply cities in order to make it through the seven years of famine. This practice evidently continued ever after Joseph's day.

 • "One of the supply cities mentioned in Exodus 1: 11 is Ramses.

• "One of the supply cities mentioned in Exodus 1: 11 is Ramses. There is a city in early Egyptian records named Avaris, which later was annexed and became part of Ramsses II royal city of Pi-Ramases. A branch of the Nile River passed through Avaris and it had a port for loading and unloading of supplies for use among the other cities along the Nile. The interesting thing about Avaris was that it was a major city of the 'shepherd kings' whom some refer to as 'Hyskos' while others refer to them as 'Asiatics. '. . .

 • "One really neat artifact found from one of these shepherd kings was

• "One really neat artifact found from one of these shepherd kings was a scarab with the words 'Jacob-El' which can be translated 'Jacob's God. ' This confirms their relationship as being descendants of Jacob (Israel). Our next clue comes in Exodus 1: 10 which says this Pharaoh was worried about Israel joining with Egypt's enemies to fight against them.

 • "An inscription from the reign of pharaoh Kamose matches this statement exactly.

• "An inscription from the reign of pharaoh Kamose matches this statement exactly. . . So the actions of Kamose definitely appear to match with the actions of the Biblical pharaoh who started the persecution of the Hebrews. The Bible then indicates from this point onward that the children of Israel were afflicted by future pharaohs with slavery until God would deliver them by sending them Moses. And history records this to be so. . .

 • "Another inscription from Thutmose III, who coreigned along with Hatsheput, also indicates

• "Another inscription from Thutmose III, who coreigned along with Hatsheput, also indicates that the Israelites had left Egypt. In a hymn he wrote to his god, Amon-Re, he states: 'it devours those who are in the marshes. . . cut down are the heads of the Asiatics, there is not a remnant of them. ' So it appears that either at his time, or just before, there was no Israelite remaining in the marsh areas of the Nile Delta. . .

 • "So since Hatshepsut and Thutmose III both state in their inscriptions that

• "So since Hatshepsut and Thutmose III both state in their inscriptions that they lived at time when the Hebrews were no longer in Egypt, this would exclude them from being the Pharaoh who died in the parting of the Red Sea incident. Although they would have been alive growing up in the house of two previous pharaohs to witness the plagues on Egypt and the Exodus first hand. . .

 • "So in summary it appears that either pharaoh Kamose or his father

• "So in summary it appears that either pharaoh Kamose or his father Seqenenre Tao began the persecution of Israel, and Moses was born either in their reigns or that of Seqenenre Tao's other son, Ahmose I. The pharaoh's daughter who adopted Moses appears to have been 'Ahmose-Tumerisy' and the pharaoh from whom he fled was Amenhotep I.

 • "With the most likely candidates for the Exodus pharaoh being either 'Thutmose

• "With the most likely candidates for the Exodus pharaoh being either 'Thutmose I' or 'Thutmose II. " (John Argubright, Bible Believer's Archaeology-Volume One: Historical Evidence That Proves The Bible, 651 -821 (Kindle Edition); La. Salle, Illinois)

• "Finally, the actual site of the Yam Suph crossing has been shown to have a number of marine archaeological remains, from some sort of disaster. This disaster included a large number of animals, horses, human beings, chariots and wheels, which are lying on the seabed of the underwater bridge. . . The finds are scattered over a wide area, from the west side the coast of the Sinai Peninsula) to the east side (the coast of northwest Saudi Arabia) and imply a very extensive disaster. JOSHUA AND CANAAN

• The Bible teaches that Joshua led the children of Israel to invade the land of Canaan. • For years, skeptics dismissed the claims of the Bible regarding the Hebrews' invasion of Canaan. • Recently, a letter was found written by Abdi. Heba, (see Joshua 10: 1 -5), Governor of Jerusalem, to an unnamed Pharaoh, asking for help against a band of invaders:

 • ". . , Why do you not hear my call for help?

• ". . , Why do you not hear my call for help? All the governors are lost; the king, my lord, does not have a single governor. . . All the lands of the king are being plundered by the Habiru. . . The arm of the mighty king conquers the land of Naharaim and the land of Cush, but now the 'Apiru have captued the cities of the king. . . Behold Zimreda, the townsmen of Lacish have smitten him, slaves who had become 'Apiru. " (El-Amarna Letter EA. 288)

• In Daniel 4, the Bible tells us of a time when king Nebuchadnezzar went crazy for a period of "seven seasons. " According to Babylonian reckoning of time, there were two "seasons" a year; so this was a period of 3 1/2 years. • The king began to act like an animal, living in the wild. • One ancient Babylonian clay tablet (BM 34113=sp 213) in the British Museum tells us the following:

 • "Nebuchadnezzar pondered. . . his life was of no value to him.

• "Nebuchadnezzar pondered. . . his life was of no value to him. . . he was angry (or stood) and a favourable path he took. . . He does not have in mind any concern for son or daughter, for him there is no family and clan does not exist. . . He weeps bitterly to his god. . . "

The second element is the third person possessive pronoun, his. This is not one of the gods of Babylon, for then he would have been named and specified-Marduk, Bel, Nebo, or what have you. But no.

When Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men among us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him, for he appeared to them alive again the third day, as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things about him, and the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct at this day. . Further, these books were copies from Rome, which shows the New Testament had circulated very far in the first few years after the Resurrection.

• In Leviticus 16, the Bible talks about the Day of Atonement. • On this day, two animals were chosen. One was a scapegoat. The high priest would release this animal, representing the people who would be allowed to live, while the other animals were sacrificed. • According to Jewish tradition, a red piece of cloth was tied around the scapegoat. After some time, the cloth eventually turned white-and this symbolized to the Jews that God had truly forgiven and accepted them.
