Introduction 2 • • Mt. 6: 9 Jesus in teaching us to pray begins by directing our minds to our heavenly Father • The Scriptures often use the word “Father” when referring the first person of the Godhead God Our Father
Introduction • • 3 Jn. 1: 18 We can only “see” God as He is revealed in His Word • We cannot fully understand God for He is infinite • But in the figure of “Father” we can understand His nature God Our Father
In What Sense Is God Our Father? 4 • He is the Father of all mankind because He is the creator of all mankind • Acts 17: 28 • But the use of “Father” in the N. T. emphasizes a spiritual relationship between God and His people God Our Father
In What Sense Is God Our Father? 5 • The church today is God’s family – His sons and daughters • Gal. 3: 26 -28 • We belong to a spiritual family over which God is Father and in which we are all brethren God Our Father
6 We Are Related To God • By the new birth we are born into to family of God • Jn. 3: 3, 5 • As His child we become more like Him day by day as we grow and mature spiritually God Our Father
7 We Are Related To God • We should think as He thinks – love all, even our enemies • Do good to all – even those who hate us and despise us • 1 Pet. 2: 2 God Our Father
Our Father’s Care 8 • God is greatly concerned about His children • 1 Pet. 5: 7 • He wants to make us good sons and daughters so we can be fit for eternity God Our Father
Our Father’s Care 9 • God’s love and concern for us is beyond our understanding • Jn. 3: 16 • Rom. 5: 8 -9 God Our Father
Responsibility 10 • • Fathers provide for their families Our heavenly Father provides for us – providing for all of our spiritual needs so that we may be ready to live with Him in eternity • 1 Jn. 2: 25 God Our Father
Responsibility • • 11 Heb. 4: 16 God has given us His Word to guide us - we in turn are to teach others so that they too may know the blessings of salvation • 2 Pet. 1: 10 • Rom. 6: 23 God Our Father
