Goals and Steps
Setting SMART Goals Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely
SMART Goals Specific A specific goal has a much greater chance of being attained. Six question to ask yourself: 1. Who: Who is involved? 2. What: What do I want to accomplish 3. Where: Identify a location. 4. When: Establish a time frame. 5. Which: Identify requirements and constraints 6. Why: Specific reasons, purpose, or benefits of accomplishing the goal. Example: General Goal “Get in shape” Specific Goal “Join a health club and workout for 1 hour, 3 days a week”
Measurable SMART Goals Establish criteria for measuring progress towards your goal. This helps you to stay on track. Set target dates. To determine if your goal is measurable, ask: How much? How Many? This will help you know if you have achieved your goal.
Attainable To SMART Goals attain your goal you must possess or attain attitudes, abilities, skills, (and yes financial means) to reach your goals. You can attain most any goal when you plan your steps.
Attainable SMART Goals “Failure to plan is planning to fail” “Plan your work, and work your plan” When you plan for your goals, goals seem to get closer and closer. (within reach) Planning goals also helps you to see yourself worthy of that goal.
Realistic SMART Goals To be realistic, a goal must be something you are both willing and able to achieve. Set high and realistic goals. High goals are frequently easier to attain than low goals. Explain:
Timely Set SMART Goals a time frame. If there is no time frame you have no sense of urgency. If you want to lose 10 lbs. , when do you want to lose it by? Knowing if I have set a good goal: Your goal is probably a good goal if you truly believe you can attain it and it has value to you.
