Engagement Ladder Taken from GM Health and Social Care Partnership Engagement Strategy and based on the work of Sherry Arnstein ‘engagement ladder model’: DEVOLVING – Placing decision in the hands of CYP and families, engaging and asking CYP and families to deliver some of the programmes and projects in partnership with our partners COLLABORATING – Working in partnership with CYP and families in each aspect of the decision making, including the development of alternatives and preferred solutions. INVOLVING – Working directly with CYP and families to ensure concerns and aspirations are consistently understood and considered. CONSULTING – Obtaining CYP and families feedback and analysis, alternatives and/or decisions. Eg: surveys, citizen panel and focus groups. INFORMING – Provide CYP and families with balanced and objective information to assist them in understanding problems, alternatives, opportunities and solutions. Eg: websites, newsletters, emails and press releases. 7
Development of the Framework with CYP • Leaders in the GM Children’s Cabinet developed a set of priorities in March 2017 for the Children’s Health and Wellbeing Board (CHWBB) to consider • Quarterly “deep dives” to develop objectives • Adopted a networked approach to engagement being facilitated through existing groups such as Youth Combined Authority and GM Parent and Carer Forum. • The GM CHWBB includes young people and family representatives amongst its membership and as key participants in presentations to ensure close engagement with Young People’s health priorities. • • • 3 “Children’s Challenge Days” with GM Youth Combined Authority The objectives were reviewed by the GM Health and Care Board in December 2017 and finalised GMHSCP / GMCA GM Youth Combined Authority Health advisory group ongoing 8
Our Aim To ensure that the young person’s voice is central to this framework and delivers the transformation in their care required to meet their self-defined challenges. We will improve joint work across all organisations in GM to: • • build on experience, statutory responsibility and skills within organisations for the clear benefit of children. remove inconsistency in care and in outcomes. embed the compendium of programmes of work already in train under other organisations and strategies achieve Priority 1 in The GM Health and Social Care Devolution Plan “Taking Charge, Taking Responsibility” …. more children reaching a good level of social and emotional development with 3, 250 more children ready for the start of school aged 5. 9
