GLOSSOP PARISH CHURCH OF ALL SAINTS 2 nd Sunday before Lent 7 th February 2021
Gathering to worship God Let us worship God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Lord, direct our thoughts, teach us to pray, lift our hearts to worship you in spirit and in truth, through Jesus Christ.
Saying sorry to God our Father, we come to you in sorrow: For the mean thoughts we have had, forgive us and help us. For the hurtful words we have said, forgive us and help us. For the wrong things we have done, forgive us and help us.
Hearing the Word of God I wonder who you look like. Has anyone ever said that you look just like someone else? “You’re just like your dad / sister / auntie!”
I wonder how it feels when someone says this? Do you mind, or do you just want to be like yourself? Some people even look like their pet!
In today’s reading we’re told that Jesus is exactly like God! Christ is the visible likeness of the invisible God. He is the first-born Son, superior to all created things. For through him God created everything in heaven and on earth, the seen and the unseen things, including spiritual powers, lords, rulers, and authorities. God created the whole universe through him and for him. Christ existed before all things, and in union with him all things have their proper place. He is the head of his body, the church; he is the source of the body's life.
He is the first-born Son, who was raised from death, in order that he alone might have the first place in all things. For it was by God's own decision that the Son has in himself the full nature of God. Through the Son, then, God decided to bring the whole universe back to himself. God made peace through his Son's blood on the cross and so brought back to himself all things, both on earth and in heaven.
Responding to the Word of God Find a book or magazine with pictures of plants, trees, rivers, hills, animals, plants, fish, any part of creation … … make yourself comfy … … take your time looking at the pictures … … say thank you to Jesus for such incredible things.
Song If I were a butterfly. . .
Praying to God We pray for God’s grace, saying: Lord, receive our praise and hear our prayer. Almighty God, give us reverence for all creation and respect for every person, that we may mirror your likeness in Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Lord’s Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name; your kingdom come, your will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.
The Grace May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us now and evermore.
