Highlight of Current Activities § Recent R&D on ITS in Korea • VMC(Vehicle Multi-hop Communication) Project by MKE (Ministry of Knowledge based Economy) § Objective : Provide V 2 V/V 2 I communication for vehicle safety and ITS applications (by 2011) § Freq. Band : 5. 835 ~5. 855 GHz (Experimental) • Smart Highway Project by MLTM (Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs) § Objective : Development of next generation intelligent highway system to provide more safe, more convenient and real-time information environments (By 2017) § Freq. Band : 5. 8 ~ 5. 9 GHz (TDB) • UTIS(Urban Traffic Information Systems) Project by NPA (National Police Agency) § Objective : Deployment of Traffic information system to provide traffic information gathering and provisioning in urban area § Freq. Band : 5. 725 ~ 5. 825 GHz (WLAN – Application Layer modified) 2
Highlight of Current Activities TTA ITS Standardization • TTA ITS/Telematics PG § 3 Working Group in ITS/Telematics PG • Infra Communication Working Group • V 2 V Communication Working Group • In-Vehicle Network Interface Working Group • TTA Telematics/ITS Standards § 36 Standards were established • DSRC Radio Communication between Road-side Equipment and On-board Equipment in 5. 8 GHz band • Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication System Requirements, Architecture • Vehicle Gateway Framework etc § 8 work Items are in the standardization process • Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication System State 3 : Routing Layer. etc 3
Highlight of Current Activities ITS Spectrum in Korea • Frequency Allocation 5. 795~5. 815 5. 835~5. 855 Current ITS Spectrum in Korea 5. 795 ~ 5. 815 GHz band : Public Use(High-pass Tolling, ITS system) 5. 835 ~ 5. 855 GHz band : Commercial Use(Currently not used) ** 5. 850 ~ 5. 925 GHz band : using for broadcasting reply 4
Strategic Direction § AT the ITS Task Force face-to-face meeting (March 31 st, 2010), PSOs recognized the importance of international harmonization in the field of ITS standardization and spectrum § AWF established ITS TG at 2009 and To. R of AWF ITS TG includes… • To study and identify spectrum and systems requirements on ITS radiocommunications • To study possible regional harmonization on ITS radio-communications spectrum and systems requirements, taking into account the trends and studies towards spectrum harmonization , applications and standards development. Ø Activities for international harmonization is being initiated in earnest. 5
Challenges § Cooperation between EU and US on ITS cooperative systems such as V 2 V and V 2 I communications systems is progressed. § Letter of Intent between ETSI and ARIB for cooperation in the area of ITS is being considered. § TTA and ARIB recognized the importance of the cooperation from Asia region, and agreed to consider on possible cooperation through AWF. ITU-R WP 5 A is developing a new technical report on advanced ITS radio-communications. Ø Many Activities for the international, regional and mutual cooperation occurred and going to occur. 6
Future Works International harmonization GSC ITS TF is a good tool to encourage the international harmonization. GSC ITS TF should be strengthened. . Active participation in ITU-R WP 5 A, AWF ITS TG Domestic Standardization Develop enhanced V 2 I Spec including DSRC to provide traffic info. Develop V 2 V Spec such as APIs for exchanging Information based on ITS dedicated Communication Develop Vehicle information protocol Spec between IVN and vehicle gateway Spectrum for V 2 V/V 2 I communication According to new service demand such as Smart Highway, UTIS and vehicle safety, New spectrum allocation is under study for V 2 V/V 2 I communication system. (5. 835 ~5. 855 GHz) 7 Geneva, 13 -16 July 2009
