Chapter Overview 1. Why Global Marketing is Imperative (왜 글 로벌마케팅이 피할 수 없는 것인가? ) 2. Globalization of Markets: Convergence and Divergence(시장의 글로벌화: 수렴과 분화) 3. Evolution of Global Marketing(글로벌마케 팅의 진화) Chapter 1 2
Introduction § Products have been traded across borders throughout recorded civilization(인규의 기록문명 전반에 걸쳐 재화가 국제적으로 거래됨), extending back beyond the Silk Road (실크로드를 생각하면 그 이전에도 국제적 교역이 있었다)that once connected East with West from Xian (China) to Rome (Italy). § Total world trade volume in goods and services(전 세계 상품 및 서비스교역 규모) grew from $7. 6 trillion in 2000 to nearly $11 trillion in 2004. Chapter 1 3
Introduction § According to the World Trade Organization (세계무 역기구, WTO), the world’s five exporting countries( 세계 5대 수출국) were Germany ($912 billion), the United States ($819 billion), China ($593 billion), Japan ($566 billion), and France ($449 billion), collectively accounting for 36 percent of global trade in 2004. (과제: 2007년 기준 전세계 수출 20대 국가 순위 및 각국의 수출금액) § The Triad Regions 세계경제 3대 권역 (North America, Western Europe, and Japan) of the world collectively produce over 78 percent of world GDP in 1 2004. Chapter 4
Introduction § Big Emerging Markets (BEMs) 거대신흥경제권: In the next ten to twenty years, BEMs such as the Chinese Economic Area(중화경제권) (CEA: including China, Hong Kong Region, and Taiwan), India, South Korea, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, Poland, Turkey, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN 아세안: including Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam) will provide many opportunities in global business. Chapter 1 5
1. Why Global Marketing is Imperative (왜 글로벌마케팅이 피할 수 없는 것인가? ) § Saturation of domestic markets(국내시장의 포화): Domestic-market saturation in the industrialized parts of the world and marketing opportunities overseas are evident in global marketing (세계 선진국들의 국내시장의 포화 및 해 외시장기회는 글로벌마케팅이 당연한 것임을 보여줌). § Global competition(글로벌경쟁): Competition around the world and proliferation of the Internet have been on the rise and are now intensifying(전세계적 경쟁과 인터넷확산이 증 대되고 있고 지금은 심화되는 중). § Need for global cooperation(글로벌협력의 필요): Global competition brings global cooperation(글로벌 경쟁은 글로 벌 협력을 수반함). Chapter 1 6
1. Why Global Marketing is Imperative (왜 글로벌마케팅이 피할 수 없는 것인가? ) § Internet revolution(인터넷혁명): The Internet and electronic commerce (e-commerce) are bringing major structural changes to the way companies operate worldwide(인터넷 및 전자상거래는 기업의 전세계적 사업에 가장 중요한 구조 적 변화를 야기). § The term “global” epitomizes both the competitive pressure and expanding market opportunities(글로벌이라는 단어는 경쟁압력과 시장기회의 확대를 함축). § Whether a company operates domestically or across national boundaries, it can no longer avoid competitive pressures from around the world(기업이 국내사업을 하든 해외사업을 하든 전세계로부터 오는 경쟁압력을 더 이상 피 할 수 없음). 2. Globalization of Markets: Convergence and Divergence (시장의 글로벌화: 수렴과 분화) § Per capita income is an important determinant of consumer buying behavior(1인당 소득은 소비자 구매 행동의 중요한 결정요인). § When a country’s per capita income is less than $10, 000, much of the income is spent on food and other necessities, and very little disposable income remains(가처분소득). § As a country’s per capita incomes reaches $20, 000, the disposable portion of income increases dramatically. § This increased disposable income level results in increased convergent pressures on consumer buying behavior(가처분소득수준의 증가하면 소비자구매행동 에 있어서 수렴적 압력이 증대). Chapter 1 9
2. Globalization of Markets: Convergence and Divergence (시장의 글로벌화: 수렴과 분화) § People with higher incomes tend to enjoy similar educational levels, desires for material positions, ways of spending leisure time, and aspirations for the future(고소득자는 교육수준, 물질적 소유에 대한 욕망, 레저시간 활용방식 및 미래에 대한 바램 등에 서 유사한 내용을 누리려는 경향이 있음). § Globalization does not suffocate local cultures, but rather liberates them from the ideological conformity of nationalism, with consumers becoming more receptive to new things(글로벌 화는 자국문화를 질식시키지 않고 민족주의에 따른 이데올로기 동질성으로부터 해방시키고 소비자들은 새로운 것을 더 받아들임 ). § Consumers also have a wider, more divergent “choice set” of goods and services to choose from(또한 소비자는 선택할 재화와 서비스에 대해서 보다 더 많은 다양한 선택폭 갖게 됨) § In other words, the divergence of consumer needs is taking place at the same time(소비자 니즈의 분화가 동시에 일어남). Chapter 1 10
2. Globalization of Markets: Convergence and Divergence (시장의 글로벌화: 수렴과 분화) § International trade consists of exports and imports(국제무 역은 수출과 수입). § International business(국제경영) includes international trade and foreign production(국제무역과 해외생산, 즉 투자). § Extensive international penetration of companies(기업의 적 극적인 해외진출) is called “global reach”. § International trade and foreign production activities are managed on a global basis(국제무역과 해외생산활동은 글 로벌 차원에서 관리). § Growth of Multinational Corporations (MNCs) and intra-firm trade is a major aspect of global markets(다국적기업의 성 장과 기업 내 무역은 글로벌 시장의 주요 특징임). Chapter 1 11
2. Globalization of Markets: Convergence and Divergence (시장의 글로벌화: 수렴과 분화) Who manages international trade(국제무역의 주체)? – Intrafirm trade(기업내 무역): Trade between MNCs and their foreign affiliates(다국적기업과 그들 계열 사간 무역거래). Comprises 34 percent of world trade. – An additional 33 percent of world trade was exports between MNCs and their partners. – In other words, two-thirds of world trade is managed one way or another by MNCs(전세계 무 역의 2/3가 다국적기업과 관련된 것임). Chapter 1 12
3. Evolution of Global Marketing (글로벌마케팅의 진화) § What is marketing? Marketing involves the planning and execution of the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas, products, and services(아이디어, 상품 및 서비스의 기획, 컨셉의 실행, 가격, 촉진 및 유통 등을 포 괄하는 일련의 기업활동). § Marketing involves customer satisfaction and their current and future needs(고객만족과 고객의 현재 및 미래 니즈에 대한 이해가 중요). § Marketing is much more than selling and involves the entire company(마케팅은 판매 이상이며, 전사적으로 적용). § Within marketing strategies, companies are always under competitive pressure to move forward both reactively and proactively(마케팅전략 맥락에서 기업은 항상 경쟁압력하에 대응적이며 선제적으로 나아감). Chapter 1 13
3. Evolution of Global Marketing (글로벌마케팅의 발전) § Five stages in the evolution of global marketing § (글로벌마케팅 발전5단계) (see Exhibit 1 -2): 1. Domestic Marketing(국내마케팅) (domestic focus; home country customers; ethnocentric orientation: 국내지향, 본국시장고객, 자 국민지향). 2. Export Marketing(수출마케팅) (indirect vs. direct exporting; country choice, exports; home country customers; ethnocentric orientation: 간접 및 직접수출, 수출국가선정, 본국시장고객, 자국 민지향). 3. International Marketing(국제마케팅) (markets in many countries; use of multidomestic marketing when customer needs are different across national markets; polycentric orientation: 다수국 시장, 시장별 고객니즈가 상이할 경우 다국가 마케팅 활용, 다국 민지향). Chapter 1 14
3. Evolution of Global Marketing (글로벌마케팅의 발전) 4. Multinational Marketing(다국적마케팅) (many markets; consolidation on regional basis; standardization within regions; regiocentric orientation: 다수시장, 지역별 통합조 정, 지역별 표준화, 지역국민지향). 5. Global Marketing(글로벌마케팅) (international, multinational & geocentric orientation; company’s willingness to adopt a global perspective; global products with local variations: 국제, 다국적 및 범국민지향; 글로벌 시각을 채택, 현지차이를 반영한 글로벌 제품). Chapter 1 15

3. Evolution of Global Marketing (글로벌마케팅의 발전) § Global Marketing: Global marketing refers to marketing activities that emphasize the following: 1. Standardization efforts(표준화 노력). 2. Coordination across markets(시장간 조정). 3. Global integration(글로벌 통합). Chapter 1 17
3. Evolution of Global Marketing (글로벌마케팅의 발전) § Global marketing does not necessarily mean that products can be developed anywhere on a global scale(글로벌마케 팅을 수행한다고 해서 제품이 글로벌 차원에서 어느 곳에서 개발될 수 있다는 것을 반드시 의미하지는 않음). § The economic geography, climate, and culture affect how companies develop certain products(경제입지, 기후, 문화 등에 따라 특정 제품의 개발이 달라질 수 있음). § The Internet adds a new dimension to global marketing(인 터넷이 글로벌마케팅에 새로운 차원을 추가함). § E-commerce retailers gain substantial savings by selling online(전자상거래를 통해서 온라인판매로 비용절감).
