3. Global Framework Agreements
Global Framework Agreements The issue: Increasing globalisation, less clear jurisdictions of employment law, sustained attacks on trade union rights and organisation The consequences: Falling levels of unionization; contracting out of services; increasing worker redundancies; erosion of workers rights in many parts of the world; social dumping; lower wages and social protections, growing inequality and discrimination. At national level and in local workplaces, our members deal with these symptoms.
The issues are real but it’s only through action that change happens. GFAs secure better working conditions for workers, union recognition without conflict which typifies many campaigns, and allows mutually productive industrial relations between signatory and union GFAs seek to support union activities by informing, connecting and solving.
• Began with commitment respect ILO labour standards (Declaration on Fundamental Principles & Rights at Work, ILO, 1998) • UN Global Compact and OECD Guideline for MNE GFAs evolution: playing to our strengths • With more organising: clearer statement of mutual expectations • No obstruction clauses, right to unions and CBA • Dispute resolution mechanisms / arbitration

• Digital technology is disrupting many industries, including member based organisations • Those that don’t innovate, will fail, but there also opportunities Digital disruption…
