During the next two months, Gina was heavily sedated and nearly died after the ‘catastrophic’ event. The investigation later revealed a catheter wire being knocked onto the floor caused the solutions mix-up. The case has been made into a video by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation to prevent similar mistakes. Gina said: "Please learn from this and that it must not happen again. “I woke up and I went, ‘what’s wrong here? I tried to sit up and I couldn’t. Then it hit me I’d lost my leg. “I had to come to terms with it. Everything was a challenge. They had to hoist me out of bed to put me into a chair.
