Gifted and Talented children and youth are those of high potential or ability, whose

Gifted and Talented children and youth are those of high potential or ability, whose learning characteristics and educational needs require qualitatively differentiated educational experiences and/or services. Possession of these talents and gifts, or the potential for their development, will be evidenced through an interaction of above average intellectual ability, task commitment and/or motivation, and creative ability.

A Gifted and Talented Program should. . . • Foster a love of learning for learning’s sake • Encourage the development of special talents • Stress critical and creative thinking, problem solving and research skills • Extend the regular school program to allow students to develop their individual interests • Provide a place for highly capable and motivated students to interact

How do students get nominated to take the tests for GT? Nominations are accepted

How do students get nominated to take the tests for GT? Nominations are accepted from classroom teachers, parents and other faculty members. • A student’s testing data is placed on a blind matrix along with the student’s grades and/or a parent checklist, and teacher’s checklist. • Once the matrix is complete, a committee reviews the scores and evaluates whether or not the student should be pulled out of the regular classroom to receive gifted educational services.

GT Services 2 nd Grade - Mondays 3 rd Grade - Tuesdays 4 th Grade Thursdays A school bus picks up students at their home school and brings them to the GT center and returns them to their home school at the end of the day. 5 th/6 th grades come one day a month with GT specialists and participate in Pre-AP classes. Students are picked up at their school and returned before the end of school. 7 th - 9 th grades receive services one class period a month with GT specialists along with Pre-AP courses. 10 th - 12 th grades receive services with GT specialists one class period month as well as Pre. AP/AP/Concurrent Courses.

Maintenance Policy As long as a child shows progress in both regular studies and Gifted and Talented classes, a student continues to receive services through the GT Department. If concerns arise, conferences are held to discuss possible methods to improve performance. Then, the Identification Committee determines future placement. No one area can determine placement or removal.

A Day in the life of GT… ● Pick up/Bus Expectations - Bus comes

A Day in the life of GT… ● Pick up/Bus Expectations - Bus comes to home schools and picks up students and takes them to RB. Bus takes students back to home schools after 2: 10 pm on their day. ● Lunch - Students can bring lunches and/or use their same lunch account as their home school.
