Housing in Gibsons Subtitle • 630 households in Gibsons are renters (28%) • Of those 49. 2% (310 households) pay more than 30% of their income toward rent • • 345 renter households report housing concerns 25 are couples with children 60 are lone-parent families 95 are senior households Source: Statistics Canada Census 2016, Census Profiles
What’s Being Proposed? • 40 units of purpose built rental • A mixture of incomes (market rent, below market rent and affordable units) • 20 1 -bedroom units • 16 2 -bedroom units • 4 3 -bedroom units

Why this property? • The Town of Gibsons is partnering with the Affordable Housing Society to identify potential Town -owned property • BC Housing funding would be applied, and there is an expectation that land would be in place • Market land costs make this type of development financially unfeasible

What We Heard Summary of June 2017 Open House • 63 submissions from 60 individuals • 11 responses expressed strong concerns and clear objections to housing on either site • Approximately 17 appeared neutral on the idea of an affordable housing project but shared concerns and feedback regarding the sites • 30 responses identified opportunities and benefits of a project, and the urgent need for more affordable housing was seen as a key reason to expidite this project
What We Heard Summary of June 2017 Open House • The main reason cited by all opposed to Charman Creek was traffic flow through Shaw Road • Other important concerns included environmental impact on wildlife habitat and the impact
Meeting Purpose World Café to Discuss Key Concerns and Possible Solutions • Purpose of tonight’s meeting is to seek community and neighbourhood input on the key concerns identified in the open house and identify possible ways to mitigate and address these concerns • Format is world café-an open dialogue format based on table topics
