IDEAS SET UP FOR YOU TO TRY TODAY Guess the Number of Library Cards Contest Book in a Jar Book Character Silhouettes Foreign Covers Cup Stacking Pom Cups Post It Note Art
HOW MUCH IS THIS GOING TO COST? Table cloths (optional) – I got mine at the dollar store Signs – you will need to print some signs and instructions, but I consider this a “cost of doing business” since you should all already have a printer and paper Various inexpensive supplies – you may find you have many on hand
GUESS THE NUMBER OF LIBRARY CARDS Scrap paper and writing utensils – on hand in the library, no need to purchase anything new Box or container for collecting guesses – you can use something on hand around the library, no need to purchase anything new Prize – if so desired; this can be intangible, like recognition Candy – optional, but if you have a small enough number of library cards that you can inexpensively represent it with candy, that would be fun and double as a prize http: //www. mskellyatthelibrary. blogspot. ca/2014/09/library-card-signup-month-guessing-game. html
BOOK IN A JAR Book – weeded due to damage Jar – brought a jar from home I cleaned after finishing the pickles Paper shredder or scissors – on hand, no need to purchase anything new Scrap paper and writing utensils – on hand in the library, no need to purchase anything new Box or container for collecting guesses – you can use something on hand around the library, no need to purchase anything new http: //wrappedupinbooks. org/2013/06/22/passive-programming-book-in-a-jar/
BOOK CHARACTER SILHOUETTES Paper – should have on hand in the library Printer – should have on hand in the library
FOREIGN BOOK COVERS Paper – on hand in the library Printer – on hand in the library Ink – it’s worth it to print in color
CARD TOWERS Deck of cards – $1 at dollar store; or recycle a deck that is missing cards
CUP STACKING Cups – $1 for a pack of 16 at the dollar store (3 packs = 48 cups/$3) https: //hushlander. wordpress. com/2014/07/23/passive-program-cup-stacking/
POM CUPS Chop sticks – $3 for a set of 10 pairs at Target (you can also get them on Amazon, but my back up plan was getting coworkers to bring me some when they ate a Chinese restaurant because I didn’t need them in bulk) Pom poms – $2 will get you a pack at Hobby Lobby, but you also may have some left over from another craft project Cups/containers – use recycled pudding cups; see link for more ideas https: //erinisinire. wordpress. com/2014/09/30/tmnt-passive-program-for-the-win/
POST IT NOTE ART Off brand sticky notes – $6 on Amazon for a pack of 24 3 x 3” pads Markers – $0. 74 cents for a pack of 10 at Target, if you need to purchase new ones, but you may already have some for other programs https: //hushlander. wordpress. com/2014/06/26/passive-program-post-it-note-art-gallery/
