GETTING STARTED WITH HOMESCHOOLING A+ TIPS FOR PARENTS TEACHING THEIR KIDS AT HOME
01 COORDINATE WELL WITH TEACHER PARTNERS. Follow the learning plans, but have a chat with your teacher partners too to learn what is expected from you as a teacher and from your child as a learner. Build a workflow that works best for your child and your family.
02 IDENTIFY YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING STYLE. Is your child a visual, auditory, reading / writing, or kinesthetic learner?
Every child is unique. Support their learning journey at home by helping them process and absorb information in the way that works best for them.
03 SET A STUDY SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY. You may be following a lesson plan, but it's up to you and your child to think how you will work together.
DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU AGREE WITH YOUR CHILD, GO FOR A TIME THAT IS CONSISTENT EVERY DAY. It's a good way to instill a healthy learning habit. You can set study time every day at 9 am to 11 am with a snack break in between.
04 BE FLEXIBLE FOR ANY CHANGES. Even if you have lesson plans and consistent study schedules, home school is a new scenario for many. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Allow yourself and your child time to adjust.
05 LEAN IN TO YOUR CHILD'S NATURAL INTERESTS. Make homeschool fun by infusing lessons with things that make your child happy.
Is your child into cars and trucks? Or is your child into dolls and puppets? Use these as props when discussing lessons or include them in your child's worksheets to keep them engaged.
06 CONNECT WITH OTHER PARENTS FOR SUPPORT. Mailing lists of group chats are extremely helpful. Chat with co-parents who are homeschooling their child for the first time. Share stories, get tips, and seek support. Times may be challenging, but you don't have to go through it alone.
07 GET HELP FROM ONLINE LEARNING RESOURCES. There a ton of learning websites that offer printable worksheets, activities, quizzes, and more. Take advantage of these materials available to you to make homeschooling manageable on your end.
HOMESCHOOLING IS POSSIBLE EVEN IF IT DOESN’T FEEL LIKE IT FOR THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OR MONTHS. PRETTY SOON YOU AND YOUR CHILD WILL ADAPT TO THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE OF HOMESCHOOLING.
THE FREEDOM OF EDUCATING YOUR CHILD IN A WAY THAT WORKS BEST WITH YOUR FAMILY'S SCHEDULE AND THE VALUES THAT RESONATE WITH YOUR HEART ARE PRICELESS.
