Submarines • Submarines are A warship with a streamlined hull designed to operate completely submerged in the sea for long periods, equipped with a periscope and typically armed with torpedoes or missiles.
Submarines in World War 1 § Submarines were invented by Germany. § Germany sunk the British ship, the Luisatana, that had American people on it. That was one of the causes that brought America into the war. § Unrestricted submarine warfare was first introduced in WW 1
German Submarines §By September 1915 the government had imposed such strict constraints with use of U. S. submarines, that Germany was now persuaded to suspend the U-boat warfare. §Germany was not prepared to do away with submarines, so they convinced the government that submarine warfare was an important part of their war strategy.
U-boats § U-boats were extremely destructive German submarines § The Treaty of Versailles had forbidden Germany from having any submarines. So in order to combat this, Germany spread the word to Russia and Spain and got them to use U-boats. § From 1918 Germany was not technically allowed to have submarines, however no one enforced this so it was not followed. § Shortly after, Hitler announced that Germany was going to reopen German submarines § Some tried to get rid of submarines but without enforcement nothing worked.
The end of U-boats § At the Battle of the Atlantic, of the 1, 155 U-boats that were sent in, 750 were sunk. The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest battle(6 years). § This battle had a death percent of 82. § Finally the U-boats were not successful because of new innovations that were brought to the battle field. More ships were getting sunk than were actually doing any damage.

Yes!! German submarines sunk the British passenger ship for absolutely no reason. About 150 Americans were also on this ship, which angered America and was a main cause of them entering the war. Submarines are vehicles under water that often have missiles and bombs attached to the bottom. Submarines are a very powerful way to blow things up underwater or ship marinas.
NO!! Tanks were commonly used in World War 1. Tanks were very slow moving, but extremely strong. It was near impossible to blow up a tank or anyone in it. They had guns poking out of the tank and could shoot very powerfully. The only disadvantage to tanks was that they were so slow, but they never stop running and are impossible to blow up.
NO!! Airplanes were present in World War 1, but they were not what destroyed the Louisatania. Airplanes were a very effective way of fighting in WW 1 because it was a new invention and not very many people had working planes. It took fighting to a whole new level because now you could fight from the air and drop the unexpected anytime.
