GERMAN GOVERNMENT The government of Germany is a republic with a Parliamentary democracy. They have a bicameral system, 2 houses. The federal government is called the Bundesregierung

BUNDESTAG This is the federal parliament. They are made up of representatives elected by the German people. This chamber of government is responsible for: Drafting legislation Approving the budget Voting on the deployment of the German army.

ELECTIONS Elections take place every 4 years. Elections take place through a proportional representation. This makes it difficult for one party to gain control. Proportional representation comes from a multi person district. This leads to a coalition government.

BUNDESRAT This is the second chamber of parliament They represent the federal states interests at a national level. 69 members They are a part of creating and approving legislation.

BUNDESPRASIDENT: THE FEDERAL PRESIDENT The Federal President is elected by the Bundesversammlung. don’t expect me to say that… This is made up of representatives of the Bundestag and the state parliaments. They are elected for 5 year terms. Their roles: Ceremonial Representing the country Power to appoint and dismiss the Chancellor.

CHANCELLOR The Chancellor is the head of government. They are picked by the President and then approved by the Bundstag The current Chancellor is Angela Merkel.
