Georges Jules Victor Clairin, foi um pintor e ilustrador francês, nascido em Paris, em 11 de setembro de 1843. Em 1861 ele ingressou na “École des Beaux-Arts ” de Paris. Clairin foi influenciado pela pintura oriental e arquitetura “Moorish”. Visitou o Norte de África muitas vezes, em particular Marrocos e Egito. Ele ficou conhecido por seus retratos de Sarah Bernhardt , com quem teve uma longa amizade. Em 1887, Clairin se tornou um “Chevalier of the Legion of Honor” e, em 1889, foi premiado com uma medalha de prata na “Exposition Universelle ” de Paris. Clairin exibiu suas pinturas regularmente no “Salon de la Société des Artistes Françaises” (1909), “Salon des Artistes Algériens et Orientaliste d’Alger”, na “Société Coloniale des Artistes Français” (1910) e no “French Artists Salon” (1914).

O artista foi contratado para pintar murais nos teatros das cidades de Cherbourg e Tours, no teto e escadas da “Opera Garnier ” de Paris, na “Bourse du Commerce ”, “Sorbonne” e “Hotel de Ville”. Morreu em Pouldu, Clohars-Carnoët , França, em 2 setembro de 1919. As pinturas de Clairin estão alojadas em algumas das coleções de maior prestígio no mundo e estão entre as obras mais célebres orientalistas de todos os tempos. Entering the Harem, 1870
