George Segal builds his sculpture by hand wrapping
George Segal builds his sculpture by hand, wrapping a live model, clothing and all, in plaster-soaked bandages, which he then further shapes and adjusts before casting it in hydrostone-- and then in bronze, if the piece will live outdoors.
Segal wants his art to trigger emotions and self-reflection. "What I'm trying to do in my work", he said, "is fumble around for the language to talk about what's the equivalent of five seconds of consciousness. "
Audrey Flack Figurative Sculpture Audrey started creating sculptures in the early 1980’s. She wanted to make something solid because she felt that the world around her was fragmented.

Step 1 : Prepare area for work. You will need scissors to cut up strips of plaster. A bowl full of water. Paper towels and plastic wrap. Step 2: Cover your hair and the top of your head with plastic wrap to prevent plaster getting in your hair. Step 3: Have your partner(s) cover your face ( LEAVING A HOLE FOR YOUR NOSE EXPOSED SO YOU CAN BREATHE!!!) with plastic wrap.
v Partners begin wetting plaster strips in the bowl of water and wringing them out so they aren’t dripping. v. Begin laying strips on the face and smoothing out the strip so it forms to the shape of the face. v. Try to keep your face as still as possible so the plaster will form to the correct shape. v You should cover the face at least four times with plaster Strips to get the mold thick enough to hold.
Once your mold has dried (Overnight), Roll out a slab of clay larger than your mold and press into the mold. Make sure it is pressed down well in areas such as the nose and cheek bones.
Add details to your face…. Have fun and BE CREATIVE!!!!
