WELCOME Dear Students, My name is Ms. Yanez and I will be your Geometry teacher. In addition to welcoming you to the class, I would like to give you some helpful information and a few hints for successful completion of this course. For many of us, virtual learning is a new experience. This new, innovative way to access education will be a challenge for most of us. All I ask, is that we all do the best we can. You will find that, as an online learner, self-motivation and discipline are paramount. This means that you are completely responsible for establishing and maintaining a regular study system. You will be responsible for the same course materials and the same standards of excellence that are required in face to face courses.
Our math department will provide you with support during the course, but you should be aware of the self-discipline required to successfully complete Geometry. The Golden Rule: You are fortunate to be here because you have the same potential as all the other students in this class to learn, to achieve, and to exceed your own expectations. I do not give grades. Your grades are earned, therefore, effort not charm, is the most important factor of your success. Remember, we are all in this together! Do not hesitate to reach out to me as I am here to help you! I look forward to teaching you this school year.
Rules in the Virtual Classroom Be respectful: Obscene, vulgar, inappropriate, or humiliating comments, spoken or written, are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Be prompt: Switch to the next class within the 8 minutes allotted. Be prepared: Sit at a table or desk and have all materials ready when class starts. Be proper: Wear the uniform top with school logo. Be patient: We are all new at this and learning together. Consequences: Failure to follow classroom rules and procedures will result in consequences that may include verbal warnings, loss of extra credit points, student conference, parent-teacher conference and/or referral to Administration.
Class Structure Attendance – 5 minutes Lesson – 35 minutes “I do, We do, You do” Break – 5 minutes Class Practice, Quiz or Test – 40 minutes
Materials, Assignments, and Categories BINDER AND MATERIALS: Three-ring binder (1. 5” or larger) with 2 dividers: Class Notes and Printouts. Students must have their binder at every live class session, as well as a scientific calculator, lined paper, graph paper, a pencil, and colored pencils. ASSIGNMENTS: Your work represents you; take pride in all assignments and tasks. Assignments will be displayed on the K 12 Platform and will be graded weekly. Assignments will lose a letter grade per week late. CATEGORIES: Quiz/Tests/Projects Assignments Participation 50% 30% 20%
