Warm Up • We have been learning about direction and location. • Q. Where is the book? • Q. Where is the chair? • Q. What is near the bookshelf?
• During the last few geography lessons, you have been learning that the scales of places can be on a personal, local, regional or national scale. In the last lesson you looked at places on a local scale, in this lesson you will look at places on a personal scale.
• Q. What is an example of a personal scale place? • home, bedroom • Q. What is an example of a local scale place? • neighbourhood, town, city, suburb, country or rural property (and possibly surrounding properties), remote property.
• Q. What is an example of a regional scale place? • a state, Queensland, Victoria, a territory, Northern Territory. • Q. What is an example of a national scale place? • a country, Australia.
• Learning Intention: Students will construct a group model of the playground at an aerial view and display key features. They will construct a picture graph, displaying favourite playground equipment. • You are doing this today for your assessment.
• Success Criteria: Students will know they have been successful if they can construct an aerial model of the playground, as a group, and answer questions given about the data and key features used.
• This is one of your geography assessment lessons, so now you have the opportunity to show what you have learned. You will show what you know about key features of a space, and the location of these key features. • 1. You will observe the key features of a play area. • 2. You will create a model of the play area, showing the location of key features. • 3. You will observe a picture of a playground a list of which key features are most popular; examine data about this, including a graph; and add your favourite feature to the graph. • 4. You will analyse the graph to work out which is the most and least popular feature. I will step you through the process during the lesson.
You will be assessed on your ability to: • identify the key features of the play area • describe the location of key features • graph your favourite feature with the teacher • analyse the playground graph.
What are the key features of the playground?
Graphing • What is your favourite piece of playground equipment? • Now we need to make a table and graph to display everyone's favourite piece of playground equipment.
Ploughback • What did we do today? • What was the favourite piece of playground equipment? • How did you plan your playground model?
