Geography Key Words We are about to begin our Geography Unit on Landforms with a quick refresher on your mapping skills. To do this we are going to revisit some key terminology from Year 7. TASK STEP ONE Go to the next slide and read the definitions of the 10 Key terms relating to Maps STEP TWO: MATCH Match the key words and their definitions with the images provided. STEP THREE: REMEMBER To make sure that you have understood the key definitions, complete the sentence writing task on the final slide. STEP FOUR When you have completed all the tasks on the presentation, ask your teacher to check your work. When completed, submit your work into your teacher's SUBMIT folder. When doing so save your work as a PDF file and remember to rename your work so that your teacher can easily identify it.
KEY TERMS and DEFINITIONS Geomorphology refers to the study of landforms and the processes that shaped them. The word means, 'a knowledge of the shape of the earth'. A part of an island or continent that borders an ocean is known as the coast or a coastal region. Inland refers to a part of a continent or country that is not near the coast or border The position or direction in which something lies. Represented using cardinal points: North, East, South, West is known as the orientation. Erosion is the process that breaks things down. In the context of Geography, it is the break down of the land arounds us Backwash refers to the movement of water from a broken wave as it runs down a beach. returning to the ocean Natural features of the landscape including valleys, mountains and hills are also known as landforms. Vegetation refers to plant life of a particular region Fauna refers to Animal life of a given place or time
