Genre A category of literature. The main literary genres are fiction and nonfiction, (poetry and drama) So…genre is a fancy word for different categories or types of books or anything written down!

Knowing the GENRE of a text can help you understand it better. If it

Knowing the GENRE of a text can help you understand it better. If it is fiction, then you know you are about to here a story with a beginning, middle and end. If it is nonfiction, then you know you must slow your reading rate and underline the important facts and details in the paragraphs.
