Diverse materials & multiple exposure
Diverse materials & multiple exposure World of Cities name: Observing the World Around You G. Aboud Complete individually, or in small group Cityscapes are diverse. They are composed of multiple neighbourhoods, distinct from each other. But what makes the character of a place? Different styles of housing, smells, languages, foods, the width and accessibility of sidewalks, if there is graffiti or not, the height of buildings, mixed-use or single-use development, who is there (business people, students, families), what is used to pave the streets and transportation options are some of the innumerable elements that make up the character of a place. Look at the area you live in. Choose 10 features you think are the most characteristic of your neighbourhood. Now, go to another neighbourhood. One that is significantly different from yours. (If you live in the sub-urbs, try going downtown, or to the Old Port). List 10 features that characterize this 2 nd place. Take photos if it will help you describe the space you have gone to. Ask yourself. What makes these places similar? What makes them different?
Diverse materials & multiple exposure Urban Experience name : Go to the webpage at the following address : http: //liminalities. net/41/spacewars. htm Watch the video. Reflect. To hand in : Experiencing the city. Length, 1 pg. Describe a recent urban experience you have had (riding the bus, missing the bus!, being stuck in traffic, going out downtown…) Write a short discussion on the experience; what larger forces seem connected to it? (road networks, accessibility of public transit, construction, population density…) Connect this experience to your feeling about cities in general. Do you love where you live? Can you hardly wait to leave? Somewhere in between? Why do

World of Cities Champlain College, Saint-Lambert by artembatutin on November 28, 2017 Montreal is a city with a dense population of 1. 74 M people. This fact is astonishing considering its location: an island. At its origin, the city was built as a trading outpost. History aside, we don't sail boats anymore to go work. How are we able to conclude a sustainable solution for transportation?
