Genesis chapter 4 Questions & Answers
Genesis chapter 4 Questions & Answers 56 In Gen. 4: 1, how does Eve show her faith? – • Genesis 4: 1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. ANSWER - In her words "I have gotten a man from the LORD" which shows her faith in God and His promise of one who would destroy the serpent.
Genesis chapter 4 Questions & Answers 57 How does the meaning of the name Abel show that Cain and Abel probably were not twins? • ANSWER - The name "Abel" means vanity. Cain was born first, and his name means spear. This shows Adam and Eve's belief in the promise of Gen 3: 15 that their seed would "spear" the serpent. • By the time Abel is born, their philosophy has changed, their awareness of the effects of sin in their life and that of children has matured, and the vanity of human existence has impressed itself upon them. This change obviously took time and shows Cain and Abel were not twins.
Genesis chapter 4 Questions & Answers 58 Why in Gen. 4: 4 is there special emphasis on the "fat" of the offering? – Genesis 4: 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: • ANSWER - The fat is a symbol of the inner man, the soul which must be dedicated completely to God as shown in the burnt offering.
Genesis chapter 4 Questions & Answers 59 Show why God accepted Abel's sacrifice and two reasons why God didn't accept Cain's offering. • ANSWER - In Gen. 4: 5, the text shows God didn't respect Cain's attitude or his offering. Abel offered firstlings, but it does not say Cain offered first fruits, and it does not indicate Cain took special care in his offering, compared to how it describes Abel's offering. • Also, Cain's offering does not involve the shedding of blood, which is a Bible principle explained later. Cain obviously didn't appreciate the principles behind what God required as well as what these offerings were to shadow.
