Genesis 2: 15 -17, 3: 1 -7, Matthew 4: 1 -11 ENCOUNTERING GOD: WHAT HAVE WE WITNESSED… …IN TEMPTATIONS?
TEMPTATION DOES NOT COME FROM GOD. When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me. ” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. James 1: 13 -14
TEMPTATION DOES NOT COME FROM GOD. No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 1 Corinthians 10: 13
WE FALL TO TEMPTATION BY … … disobeying. … failing to trust God. … ignoring God. … doing what seems good to us rather than God.
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned— for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come. Romans 5: 12 -14
HOW CAN WE HAVE VICTORY OVER TEMPTATION? Remember God’s presence. Experience the truth of God’s Word. Trust God’s goodness. Receive God’s forgiveness through Christ.
Call to worship Leader: Lord, we come before you veiled in weakness and frailty; People: grant us strength and instruct us in your ways. Leader: Lord, we stumble into your presence; People: grant us refuge from the raging storms of life. Leader: Lord, we want to witness your redeeming love and strength. All: Grant us pure hearts as we worship you now.
Leader: The Lord is our hiding place; God preserves us from trouble and surrounds us with glad cries of deliverance. All: Steadfast love surrounds us; for we trust in the Lord. We are the blessed whose transgressions have been forgiven.
