A GENERATION REFERS TO INDIVIDUALS BORN WITHIN A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME WHOSE SHARED EXPERIENCES SHAPE A DISTINCT WORLDVIEW.

BABY BOOMERS - ROCK AND ROLL GENERATION • Born 1946 to 1964 • Vietnam War / Watergate / Woodstock / JFK, Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy assassinations • Deeply involved in the civil rights movement • Motivated to change the world • Largest generation (before Mellannials) in 1999 they peaked at 78. 8 million people • Sexual revolution – FDA approved the birth control pill in 1960 • Drinking, marijuana and illicit drugs were used more by Baby Boomers than any other generation in their youth (so far)

GENERATION X – GEN X • Born 1965 to 1980 • Fall of Berlin Wall / End of Cold War / AIDS crisis / MTV Music videos / Challenger explosion • Squeezed between two larger generations • Stereotyped as a generation of slackers, unmotivated and more interested in pop culture than previous generations • First generation where women were more formally educated than men • 55% of start-up founders were Gen X – largest so far of any generation • Has incurred the most personal debt

MILLENNIALS – GEN Y • Born 1981 to 1997 • 9/11 / Obama election / Great Recession / Rise of global market • In 2016, Millennials became the largest living generation, will peak in 2036 with 81. 1 million • Less likely than past generations to take part in marriage, religion, military and political parties • In general, Millennials view their economic futures more positive than older generations • In 2015, became the largest generation in the American workforce • More Millennials identify as LGBT than any other generation

GENERATION Z – HOMELAND GENERATION • Born 1998 TO 2010 • Global terrorism / Trump election / Brexit / Social media natives / Digital content & videos • Predicted to be more hardworking and anxious than Millennials • First generation to not remember a time without internet or smartphones • Grew up with a black president and same-sex marriage as a constitutional right • Therefore past generations feel they will take many social issues for granted • Grew up in the difficulties and aftermath of economic and political turmoil • Predicted to be the most entrepreneurial generation

BENEFITS OF GENERATIONS WORKING TOGETHER Keep in mind that whenever you have access to different views, ideas and way of doing things, you have a source of knowledge that is profound and leveraged for the organization’s benefit.
