Birchwood Program HOME The Birchwood School is a day school providing education using therapeutic milieu. The school provides a highly structured and individualized school program of remediation and therapeutic rehabilitation. The Birchwood School is for students ages five through twenty-one, whose disabilities require a special educational setting and related services to meet their unique management, academic, physical and social needs. Birchwood creates a supportive, reassuring environment for school-aged children having significant emotional, behavioral and learning problems. It provides an environment which responds to a child's needs with compassion, understanding and guidance. The school provides a psychotherapeutic approach for the child both in school and at home. At Birchwood, students have the opportunity to succeed by allowing them to proceed at their own rate. Students know they can turn to caring people for help in dealing with the many challenges they will meet in their everyday lives within their home, school and community. The Birchwood program has a fully accredited staff of specialists in both clinical and special education disciplines who work to effectively integrate educational and clinical services. Birchwood's goal is to prepare students to return to an appropriate program provided by their home school district. Tuition for students attending Birchwood is paid for by their home school districts.
Consultant Teacher Designed for students who require limited special education. A special education teacher works with the student for a minimum for 2 hours per week. Through collaboration with general education teachers and other professional the consulting teacher assists the student’s learning in a general education setting Inclusion Co teaching A special education and a general education teacher share responsibility for instruction of all students in a general education classroom. Educating special education students in a general education setting with guidance from the student’s IEP HOME Resource is for students who require supplemental instruction from a special education teacher. Resource provides a minimum of three hours of supplemental instruction per week.

Students may require nursing and multiple therapeutic interventions. An extensive Community Vocational Program is part of the curricula as is a rich augmentative communication support service. Language development and community based instruction support student development of their fullest potential. In addition, intensive ABA and TEACCH methodologies are employed. Related services are offered as part of the program and IEP. HOME

Services are provided for classified and non-classified students, grades K– 5, experiencing an acute crisis. School and mental health issues are focused on in an integrated 60 -day diagnostic/intensive support setting. The intent is to stabilize the student and return him/her to their home district. Teams consist of a teacher, teaching assistant, psychiatric social worker, psychiatrist and support staff. HOME
AIP/GED Academic Intervention Program/General Equivalency Diploma BOCES main campus, West Nyack This collaborative with the Career Education Division provides academic support to special education students working toward their equivalency diploma. 15– 1 intensive 2. 5 hour academic program with a focus on reading/math. Students also participate in a Diversified Work Program— Work-Based Learning Center or Career Education option. AIP is a prep course for GED students. HOME

Services are provided for classified and non-classified students, grades K– 5, experiencing an acute crisis. School and mental health issues are focused on in an integrated 60 -day diagnostic/intensive support setting. The intent is to stabilize the student and return him/her to their home district. Teams consist of a teacher, teaching assistant, psychiatric social worker, psychiatrist and support staff. The program serves students with developmental and behavioral delays grades 4– 5 with a language-based curricula, mainstreaming or integrative opportunities, as needed. Student-staff ratio is 8– 1– 2. HOME
HOME Clarkstown Central School District is committed to provide appropriate education for all students in the least restrictive environment. Occasionally a student’s needs can not be met by district or BOCES programs. In these cases the director of special education will work with the student and family to locate an appropriate residential or day treatment program outside of Rockland County
